San Luis Obispo police are searching for an armed man who robbed a cigar store Friday evening.

At about 8:30 p.m., a masked man walked into Tony’s Cigars and Accessories at 158 Higuera Street and asked an employee to gather several items for him. The worker gathered the items, placed them in a bag and carried them to the counter, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

The suspect then brandished a Glock-style handgun and demanded money from the cash register. The employee placed the cash in a bag, after which the suspect threatened to harm him if he called the police. Then the suspect fled by foot.

Police describe the suspect as about 40 to 50 years old with a tan complexion. He was wearing a green Carhartt brand sweatshirt, dark pants and Jordans-style shoes. The victim said the suspect had a Latino accent, police said.

Investigators are asking anyone who has information about the suspect to call the watch commander at (805) 781-7313 or Crime Stoppers at (805) 549-7876.

He knows unless he took more than $950 nothing serious will happen to him.

I agree. If he’s caught, his attorney will probably go after the store clerk for racial profiling and sue the business for racist actions due to the fact he was identified as having a tan complexion and a Latino accent. The sad fact is, nowadays a jury would probably agree. God help us.

If he actually has a tan complexion and accent, that attempt would get thrown out immediately by the court because that’s just describing the suspect. Happens all the time.

Although, having been the victim of property thefts, I agree with your sentiment, armed robbery is not covered by the $950 legal-to-steal rule.

No. He used a gun. If caught, he’ll go to prison.
