The San Luis Obispo Police Department issued 15 citations to drivers for a variety of violations during a bicycle and pedestrian safety operation on June 8.

These violations include:

Stop sign violation, failing to take the bike lane before a right-hand turn, bicycles riding the wrong way against traffic and failing to yield the right of way at a stop sign for oncoming traffic.

“Safety is a shared responsibility, with drivers holding the greatest responsibility to keep other road users safe,” Sgt. Evan Stradley said. “We hope this operation serves as a reminder to everyone to practice due care and to look out for one another.”

The department will hold another bicycle and pedestrian safety operation on June 17 and June 18.

Funding for these program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

So they target bike night for profit. never see them parked outside vineyards or upscale establishments waiting for rich drunk people to DUI. Any cops on Adelaide road waiting for elite psychopaths to DUI? Naw, get the poor folks and ruin their night. God forbid the poor people in Slo ruining the rich folks entitlement to life. Maybe Bike Night should petition to shut down the downtown with Democracy and let the babies cry. Slo boycotts food trucks because greedy business owners hate competition. San Luis is the next bay area, unless the regular folks do something. Stop the Rich and gentrification and destruction of our home.

SLOPD, the uniformed tax collectors, are at it again.

The difference between bicyclists and motorcyclists is bicyclists think it’s the job of people in cars to look out for them. Motorcyclists think people in cars are trying to hit them.

In Idaho bicyclists are allowed to treat stop signs as yield signs, and if safe can blow right through stop signs. Research has shown that this has led to less bicycle and automobile accidents in that state.

As of January 1, jaywalking is no longer illegal in California. Newsom signed it into law last October.

this is so stupid. why are the police so oblivious to what makes people hate them. City spends millions to build all these bike lanes and paths, only for cops to hang out on them like thugs and extract the wealth of actual hard working citizens.

A bicycle lane is a designated traffic lane for bicyclists. However, motorists must merge into a bicycle lane when making right turns.

This sounds like a recipe for disaster.

It’s been that way forever. It is illegal to use the bicycle lane to make right turns if it interferes with a bicyclist. They have the right of way in those situations.

“Failing to take the bike lane before a right-hand turn.”

Does this law apply to cyclists or motor vehicles?

Void for vagueness.

Start with enforcing jaywalking. Most Poly students don’t even look up from their phone when walking into the street downtown.. They think the whole town is Perimeter Drive and aimlessly wonder into the streets.

Jaywalking is no longer a crime as long as it’s safe to do so. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the Freedom to Walk Act on Oct. 2, 2022.

That’s not entirely true. The new law states that people can cross a street outside of marked crosswalks or intersections ONLY IF IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.

jaywalking was decriminalized thi year in california

Don’t even move when you see a cop, they can’t see you then, like a trex.

Ah, yes, cars. Gasoline is carcinogenic, give them more power to kill off us, gotta Slo overpopulation and procreate more downs and autistic folks due to carcinogens. It’s the master plan. Breathe deep.
