Trump administration tells California to ban transgender athletes

The Trump administration announced on Wednesday that the California Department of Education and the state’s high school sports federation have violated civil rights law by allowing transgender students to compete on girls sports teams.

Federal laws require schools receiving federal funding to provide girls an equal opportunity to compete in sports. However, laws in California allow boys and girls to compete in sports and use locker rooms of the gender they identify with, regardless of their biological gender.

The federal Education Department provided a proposed resolution that would require California to bar transgender women from participating in female sports and strip transgender athletes of any awards or records received in woman’s sports. The state has 10 days to comply.

If California rejects the proposal, the Education Department could terminate federal education funding to California at a time many school districts are facing financial hardships.

“The Trump Administration will relentlessly enforce Title IX protections for women and girls, and our findings today make clear that California has failed to adhere to its obligations under federal law,” Education Secretary Linda McMahon said. “The state must swiftly come into compliance with Title IX or face the consequences that follow.”

Title IX is a 1972 law forbidding sex discrimination based in education.

I bet the Lucia Mar school board members are circling the wagons and trying to figure out how they can fight this, of course using taxpayers money.

Why are many school districts facing financial hardships when enrollment has been plummeting for a long time yet tax and bond $$$ keeps pouring in?

Schools are paid by attendance. Fewer students means less money for that particular school. On another note, the Democrats have to surrender on this issue. It is just not that important and these trans individuals will move on with their lives regardless of whether they can compete. Even my liberal friends believe it is unfair as it is. There are simply more pressing issues that this state needs to deal with. This should not be the hill that Dems die on.

Because bonds pay for facilities, not the people working in them. Enrollment has not plummeted. There is still 39.5 million people in the state.

Life is often unfair, as is the case for those born with the mindset for a different gender than was provided by nature. That must be a difficult situation and would be unreasonable to forcibly subject on others.

Texas, Oklahoma, many Midwest and southern states, $2.70-$2.80 gallon. California $4.60-$5.00 gallon. Haven’t had $2 gas in California for decades. Elections have consequences, think about that when you vote next time for Governor and state reps.

While even I, do think there should be a seperate category for athletes of that nature… Lets keep in mind there are less trans athletes natuonwide than there are felonies held by Trump( 30+ if you arent paying attention). This is just another hyperbolic distraction, not an issue affecting a lot of people every day. Don’t waste your energy on this one folks.

This is getting very interesting. I’m anticipating resistance with a capital R, but I’m always mystified why some biological women refuse to accept Reality (also with a capital R),but instead are shooting members of their own gender in the foot.

Although some would like to supply a very simplistic answer to this problem, biologically, it is actually very complex. There are many strictly biological reasons why a person who is born seeming to be one sex might end up expressing biologically or emotionally or relating as another. While some might reject that reality, for what they deem religious reasons or for strictly prejudicial reasons, it remains a biological fact. To pretend otherwise is similar to declaring oneself a flat earther. Scientifically, we now know better.


If that reality bothers some people, imagine how it feels for a person who is dealing with that situation. Try to imagine how much they wish it were not a problem, and please try to be kind.


However much a person sitting in our White House may want to think they are entitled to control all things under their thumb, that is not the case in America. IMHO, this is just not his call. It should be up to those who regulate sports in general, and it should be up to the People of California.


If I were him, I would not be threatening California constantly about “withholding funds”. California is the major economy of the US. We are a third larger than the next biggest in the US. We are the 4th largest economy in the world. We donate, on average, $80 BILLION per year to the federal government that we do not get back. That money is used to finance the “red” states, most of which are running in the red without us. Imagine how many of our state problems we could solve with that money.


Vote me down, or whatever. This is all verifiable.

Actually it Is simple. Men are men, women women, and the gender confused are…that…. I prefer to be kind by not forcing girls to compete with physically more gifted males, nor force girls to share locker rooms with them, or be ogled by them while changing cloths, which has happened here in Lucia Mars.


It’s not about trump, it’s not about how much better, smarter, or richer (as if) California is than everyone else, or how much wiser and sympathetic your opinion is than others. It’s about girls’ dignity, privacy, and right to compete only against other girls if they so choose – and they do, overwhelmingly!


Even our idiot governor is starting to come around…

4th largest economy yet public schools are hurting for $ in California. Allan Hancock College has a $4.2 million deficit for FY2024-2025 (but that didn’t stop administrators making 200k+ a year from giving themselves a 12.5% raise. The COMMUNITY COLLEGE President got a $4000/mo raise to push him over $400k/yr salary) and there is a $7.6 million deficit for 2025-2026. It does seem California is good at spending taxpayers money and giving themselves outrageous raises when it is within their power to do so while the peons (classified staff) get a paltry 1% COLA. All this information can be found in the Board Books on their website for anyone to see.

This is about mentally ill parents and teachers permanently damaging their own children in the name of your fake science. Sacramento deserves to lose every dollar going along with the perverted whims of these adults, and as you claim we don’t actually need any of the federal money, right?

This issue SHOULD NOT be up to the sport’s regulatory authorities or people of California. IT IS up to the U.S. Congress and the Supreme Court to affirm and codify civil rights for girls and women in scholastic sports. That’s EXACTLY what they did via Title IX when discrimination against women in education was remedied and protected 53 years ago by congressional action and signed into law by President Nixon. Title IX expanded and brought clarity to the 1964 Civil Rights Act and has ties to other civil rights legislation passed in the 1970’s and 80’s.


How ironic that many 1968-70’s era liberal civil rights advocates and feminists lobbied hard for women’s equal rights in schools & colleges but were actually sowing mine fields that future generations of women would become victims in because of perverse and delusional males seeking their way into female sports and locker rooms. Who would have guessed 50+ years ago that the same camp that advocated for Title IX at its beginning would be fighting that same civil rights legislation on behalf of men masquerading as “victimized’ faux women. In the best interests of women, girls, schools & colleges, and ALL Californians, our state Dept of Education needs to immediately & fully comply with Title IX, the federal Department of Education, and the federal Department of Justice.

Trump doesn’t care that the state wants to allow boys to play in girls sports, and occupy the girls lockers, showers, and bathrooms. That’s 10 Amendment stuff.


However, he is under no obligation to use federal tax dollars to fund a state concern.
