Kamala Harris says she will not run for California governor in 2026

July 30, 2025

By KAREN VELIE

After months of contemplating a run for Gov. Gavin Newsom’s seat, former Vice President Kamala Harris announced Tuesday she will not run for California governor in 2026.

Harris plans to announce, in the next few months, her future plans. She has not ruled out a run for president in 2028.

Kamala Harris’ announcement

“Over the past six months, I have spent time reflecting on this moment in our nation’s history, and the best way for me to continue fighting for the American people and advancing the values and ideals I hold dear.

“I am a devout public servant, and from the earliest days of my career, I have believed that the best way I could make a difference in people’s lives and fight for a better future was to improve the system from within. And it has been a profound honor to do that work and serve the people of California and our nation—as a prosecutor, attorney general, U.S. senator, and vice president.

“In recent months, I have given serious thought to asking the people of California for the privilege to serve as their Governor. I love this state, its people, and its promise. It is my home. But after deep reflection, I’ve decided that I will not run for Governor in this election.

“I have extraordinary admiration and respect for those who dedicate their lives to public service—service to their communities and to our nation. At the same time, we must recognize that our politics, our government, and our institutions have too often failed the American people, culminating in this moment of crisis.

“As we look ahead, we must be willing to pursue change through new methods and fresh thinking—committed to our same values and principles, but not bound by the same playbook.

“For now, my leadership—and public service—will not be in elected office. I look forward to getting back out and listening to the American people, helping elect Democrats across the nation who will fight fearlessly, and sharing more details in the months ahead about my own plans.

“In the United States of America, power must lie with the people. And we, the people must use our power to fight for freedom, opportunity, fairness, and the dignity of all. I will remain in that fight.”

I guess the passage of time was too much for her… lol

Dang… that would have been fun to watch….

Who care what Kampala won’t do – she spent four years doing nothing.

I’m sorry, but she should just hang it up. She’s not an intellectually serious person. She’s just not. By which I do not mean that she’s unintelligent. But she’s incurious, risk-averse, and should have taken the hint in 2020. She’s not going to win the presidency in 2028. Go home, enjoy your life with your family, do a “book deal” and dine out, as Hunter says, on the past. I for one will get the popcorn ready.

California is already a national laughingstock, Kamala would only reenforce that view!!

Hopefully someone more centrist joins the race that is electable, there’s always hope!!!

She’d win that election handily. As it is we’ll probably see a run off between two Dems unless one of the front runners wants to harp on one of the Republicans like Adam Schiff did for Steve Garvey to eliminate Katie Porter in the Senate race. My money would probably be on Villaraigosa.

Great news, Good riddance!!!

“She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn……..black, and now she wants to be known as…….black. So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?” – DJT

Doubt that DJT is exactly an authority on women in any sense. That guy has never met anyone he wouldn’t bad mouth and throw under the bus if it was somehow to his advantage. And we already know his track record with females of any age.

“They are eating the dogs. They are eating the cats”. DJT

Dodged a bullet.

Thank God!!!!!!

The last thing CA needs right now is this incompetent wino as our governor.

CA is in bad enough shape right now, we need a real leader with common sense!!!!!

California is the 4th largest economy in the world. “Bad enough shape”? Really? By what measure? Other countries are eager to learn from us. We are supporting most of the “red” states with the $80 BILLION dollars we donate to the federal government every year to support them. If this is news, perhaps she is not the one who lacks “common sense”.

You do know that that California has the greatest amount of unfunded pension liabilities of any state, totaling over $1.5 trillion. Not to mention it’s budget deficit is currently $12 billion.

“We” as a state are not, residents that pay federal income tax are. A tax base that moves when people move out of state. The only things that keep people from moving out of state are the qualities that are inherent to the geography, nice weather and the geography, name one thing the state government has done that is not significantly below average. Being the 4th largest economy, quality of life here should be outstanding which very few citizens here would say it’s true.

I challenged you on this “4th largest economy” thing previously. Provided links and invited you to defend your statement. Crickets….

I’m sorry, but do you have any new material? Bueller…. Bueller…..

Bolognini…. Bolognini….

LOL!

A quick Google search pretty much confirms that Cali has moved ahead of Japan to have the 4th largest economy in the world at $4.1 trillion GDP per year. It is, however, a somewhat misleading figure when you consider that Cali relies on interstate commerce and outside investment to bolster its economy.

Regardless, it is by far the largest economy in the U.S. outpacing Texas whose GDP is at about $2.6 trillion, making it the 8th largest in the world.

Unfortunately, Cali also has the highest poverty rate among U.S. states. Goes to show that capitalism can be very good and very bad at the same time.

Nevertheless, Ms. Bolognini is certainly correct. I’d live to see research that contradicts that.

I’ll give you credit for replying, even though my challenge was directed to Bolognini. But there’s a lot of mushiness in that ranking. As always I provide a link from a center-left source:

https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2025-04-30/californias-economy-is-now-the-4th-largest-in-the-world-or-is-it

Exchange rates factor into this as well. Our economy is not as broad and deep as it used to be. California Democrats actively worked to get industrial manufacturing out of the state. The BRAC cuts of the 1990s destroyed lots of solid union jobs at military bases, particularly the Naval shipyards. Now we have a backlog of maintenance on our warships and empty areas of our economy. We’re becoming a feudal society of tech overlords, a faceless, nameless, stateless mass of illegal aliens, and a diminishing number of middle class Americans. And it ain’t capitalism, it ain’t Republicans, it ain’t Trump. It’s one-party Democrat oligarchy here in the DPRC. Peace.
