Frightened for my community as leaders stand behind Antifa

October 9, 2025

OPINION by STEVE REBUCK

So John Ashbaugh, Ph.D., advocates in the SLO New Times for Antifa. Asbaugh endorses bounties on ICE agents, $2,000 for kidnapping, $10,000 for murder, firebombing buildings, shooting rocks and marbles at police officers, hit and run, physical assault, looting, death and destruction in 140 cities nationwide?

In my opinion, Asbaugh is condoning violence.

I don’t have a Ph.D. My college was interrupted in 1967-1973 by the US Army. I spent six years in the California Army National Guard. I went to riots in Compton, Watts, Isla Vista and elsewhere.

Our founders created “citizen soldiers,” aka National Guard, to protect our country. Maybe Ashbaugh would have more empathy for National Guard, ICE, and police if he too had served. Or, did he? No evidence of service.

I also worked as a licensed contractor for 20 years. I lost a lot of jobs to illegals from Mexico during the Obama Administration. My income declined by 70%. I had to have a state license, liability insurance, bonds, a business license. The illegals have none of these state requirements

Asbaugh’s job as a college professor was pretty safe from this, although a school superintendent from Iowa was recently found to be an illegal immigrant with a fake P.h.D. Maybe Ashabuagh could show empathy for those of us who must deal directly with these criminals.

Ashbaugh refers to President Donald Trump as a fascist. A common definition of fascism is targeting a common enemy. Gee, let’s see. Who is the Democrat’s common enemy? Could it be President Trump?

President Trump is a master of distraction with his enemies. Asbaugh clearly took the bait. Now he spews like a madman.

My life experience has been guided by common sense experience, clearly something Asbaugh is lacking. Maybe not having a Ph. D. is not so bad after all.

Any stance other than anti fascism is a direct insult to our WW2 veterans and their families, as well as every single person in this country. FREEDOM means something here! Or at least, it used to :/

And a voting bloc that applauds it every step of the way. As their leader opens the doors for foreign adversaries and attacks his own nation. Bravo, this group of voters cheers, about time! WAR ON US !!!

For a guy with a PHD in History, Ashbaugh is seriously lacking in historical facts and reality.

Japanese Fascists? No. How about an Empire that set out to conquer the entire Pacific Rim, with the sole intent to strip its wealth, resources, and enslave the inhabitants. Those not willing to be enslaved, were murdered. Most were simply murdered anyway. This is not Fascism, Socialism, Communism, but a monarchy Emperor drunk on power, and staid in his belief that his version of God, divinely chose him to lead Japan in victory.

Mussolini himself, started the whole Fascism thing, by ordering his government to take over all means of production, transportation, and welfare. Note, HE did not personally demand such things, but made sure his government did. Also known as “socialism”.

Hitler started the whole Nazi thing, by calling his party and government “National Socialists”. Did you read the “socialist” part of that?

Socialism’s heart and soul, is adherence to left wing ideology….and left wing ideology’s heart and soul, is adherence Socialism.

Socialism, and all it’s branches, killed over 100 million people in the last century. The only thing good about socialism, is it’s supporters and cheerleaders will also be swallowed into the black abyss of death and destruction that ALWAYS follows in it’s wake.

Now, guess what “antifa” wants to happen…..and it ain’t democracy?

Where are Antifa Headquarters located? Who are its leaders? I hear they’re marauding the streets of Portland in frog costumes.

We can ask you, where is the KKK headquarters? Who are it’s leaders? Fascists headquarters? Nazis leaders?

Our own lying eyes, prove black bloc dressed morons with anarchy symbols and screaming “death to America!” “antifa, antifa, an ti fa!” Even the notoriously leftist Wikipedia says antifa is a LEFT WING movement.

When you’ve lost Wikipedia….

Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political IDEOLOGY … [Wikipedia]

Langley, Virginia.

“Asbaugh endorses bounties on ICE agents, $2,000 for kidnapping, $10,000 for murder, firebombing buildings, shooting rocks and marbles at police officers, hit and run, physical assault, looting, death and destruction in 140 cities nationwide?”

Ashbaugh said no such thing. He was simply advocating against Trump, who is currently overseeing the most repressive presidential administration since Nixon. Some liken it to fascism. And Nixon probably wouldn’t believe what Trump is getting away with. Of course, the Republican Party used to have some principles.

Antifa is not an organization as, say the KKK or Proud Boys. Rather, it is an ideology opposing fascism. Once upon a time, over 400,000 Americans lost their lives fighting against fascism. We should all be anti-fascist, because it is a political philosophy that is in direct conflict with constitutional democracy (though we no longer seem to abide by that in the era of Trump).

Furthermore, I call BS on your claim that illegal aliens ran rampant during the Obama administration. In fact, according to the Center for Migration Studies, “The undocumented population was 10.8 million in 2016, the lowest level since 2003.”

https://cmsny.org/publications/warren-undocumented-2016/

There apparently is no end nor cure for TDS…. so we’ll just have to sit back and watch them continue to lose elections until they snap out of it… at each of the ICE centers afront in the news there are people wearing Free Palestine and trans rights shirts and Trump is a Nazi hats… these dishonest people don’t care about migrants they are just anti Trump and this is a way for them to vent their anger… Ashbaugh is no different… He never said a word when Obama was deporting migrants… none of them did…

Democrats obviously support drumming up problems in order to win public support to “fix” them. Trump doesn’t play that game.

This is pretty funny way to look at the world

I desperately searched for the article you mentioned in the New Times. I could not find it and in the back of my mind I was really hoping not to find it!!!

If those things you say are true, this man should not be allowed in any public forum. I did look him up and I must say that everything he did in life would point to this being a person who would say that.

Someone who spent all their life in government jand then academia is the kind of person who would certainly be immune to reality of life. They are the type of politicians who keep the doomsday peppers thriving.

You almost don’t have to read it. Any critical thinker can read this piece of … opinion and tell it’s high in bias, inaccuracy, and emotion.

Even setting aside the grammatical errors and sporadic use of punctuation, it’s difficult to follow what the point is here. I went ahead and read Ashbaugh’s piece and can only draw the conclusion that Rebuck is either deliberately mischaracterizing it or simply didn’t understand what he read. If Ashbaugh called for bounties in that piece I certainly missed it. Rebuck claims that Ashbaugh condoned violence, despite his near constant insistence to turn the other cheek. I could go on about the factual errors present here. I’d say it’s fairly shocking that CalCoastNews is publishing such a misleading opinion piece, but then again I have the misfortune of reading Andy’s all too frequent screeds.

I too circled back to read Ashbaugh’s op ed, and I agree with most of what you observed. Factual errors and no mention of “bounties”.

However, Ashbaugh forwards the often repeated claim that Antifa isn’t an organization.

That , is total B.S. word games. No one claims a leadership role or they would already be locked up.

They are loosely organized, but organized nonetheless.

None of this would be a thing except some state leaders pretend they can defy federal law and jurisdiction. Just like the Brown vs. Board of Education and Little Rock days under Eisenhower,

States can’t defy federal law.

Don’t like federal law ? Petition to change it. Rioting

will never work.

These people take such leaps in reasoning that they can make themselves see anything they desire to see. It is a major problem and I’m not sure we’ll overcome it.

IMHO: It is best to do a bit of online investigation before buying the greatly exaggerated tales of mass insurrection and supposedly burning cities occurring across America.

I would also advise to refrain from accusations, in print, concerning what another individual has supposedly endorsed. I personally would welcome a bounty on kidnappers and murderers. As for endorsing the rest of the laundry list of violence, without even reading the article in the NT, I will bet that was not stated in his words, and the author of this piece above better hope that Mr. Ashbaugh is not a litigious man.

As for endorsing “antifa”, SO DO I. Our former President Eisenhower was the commanding head of antifa, back in the day. My father, a brown-skinned immigrant, by the way, was also antifa, during WWll. He trained B29 bomber pilots, entertained the troops as a cellist and conductor, and was a founding member of the Civil Air Patrol. I am glad he is not witnessing what is occurring in the upper levels of our government today.

Masked thugs grabbing random people off the streets, without warrants of proof, herding panicked people off of rooftops to their deaths, invading cities and states in violation of court orders and against their sovereign governments, “disappearing people, even US citizens for the color of their skin, leaving children in cars in the middle of the street when removing their parents, often without records of where they have been sent,……etc., etc. Especially considering that to be here “illegally” is a simple misdemeanor, not an extrajudicial capital crime. Judges agree that the ends do not justify the means.

Somehow, I find it hard to understand how anyone who took a solemn oath to our Constitution, who served their country in uniform, could condone going against the constitutional protections afforded to all who enter this country, whether by birth or by relocation, regardless of legal status. Those rights and protections are what make us America.

Allowing mass , undocumented migration will go down in history as the greatest “ subsidy “ to corporate America in our history. In the nineties under Clinton it really took off and utterly hollowed out the Midwest. Plant and production workers were laid off and replaced with illegals at usually about a third of the old wage. Corporations and the construction and hospitality industry have made out big time!

… And closer to home, our own local ‘Coastal Elites’ have enjoyed bargain rate gardeners, maids and nannys. Another fat cat win!

P.S. People who enter the country illegally are not afforded constitutional protection or any ‘ due process’. They are removed. Constitutional protection is for citizens only. That’s clearly the law – like it or not.

I don’t think that’s true but whether it is or not, who do you trust to make that determination? The people that are making it now? And if they are criminals themselves?
