Newsom deploys National Guard to food banks during shutdown

Governor Gavin Newsom today announced plans to deploy the California National Guard and California Volunteers to support food banks as the federal government shutdown delays food benefits for 5.5 million Californians.

In addition to the California National Guard, Newsom is fast-tracking up to $80 million ahead of funding delays triggered by the shutdown. The deployment mirrors the governor’s action in March 2020, where the California National Guard supported food banks during the pandemic.

At that time, California created an urgent force overseeing the deployment of the California National Guard, the California Service Corps, and tens of thousands of volunteers to support food bank operations during the pandemic, serving more than 800 million meals.

The California National Guard will not be acting as law enforcement, according to Newsom’s press release.

“Trump’s failure isn’t abstract – it’s literally taking food out of people’s mouths,” Newsom said. “This is serious, this is urgent – and requires immediate action. Millions of Americans rely on food benefits to feed their families, and while Republicans in Washington drag their feet, California is stepping up once again to fill in the gaps.”

Are the Guardsmen bringing food? If not, I’m sure the food banks have sufficient paid and volunteer staff to distribute what they have as usual. However if the guard is there I will have to put my plans to rob the local food bank on hold. Was looking forward to jacking a few cases of packaged mac and cheese!

$40 BILLION to Argentina and y’all wanna get upset at the people who recieve food benefits? The outrage is beyond misdirected to the point where it’s just, sad.

For those who might not know how the Guard works, when the State calls up units on emergency state active duty (ESAD) the Soldiers are paid according to the State civil service wage scale. You fill out new W4s, direct deposit forms, etc. And in California that translates to higher pay than the regular DoD pay scales. That’s why one of my Platoon Sergeants is already getting expressions of interest from Soldiers looking to volunteer for this. This will be expensive and it’s entirely a State expense. Just FYI.

If Trump did this his cult following would be crying in the streets with joy at what a generous, thoughtful person he is.

Hey cultist. Do you have a plan for your life when Trump is no longer around?

Do you have a vision what it will be like to make decisions on your own without him being your guiding light?

What will your safe zone be? Valium? Weed?

As I write this, thinking I may commission somebody to create a small statue of Trump that his cult will buy for their home. A statue that cultists will bow down to. Cry in front of it.

Maybe make a teddy bear of Trump for his cultist to take to bed.

If we had better State level governance we wouldn’t need food banks… I thought we were the biggest economy in the nation… why are we accepting Governor Newsom’s destruction of our state?…

My question is why are 5.5 million California residents getting food stamps/welfare while working for walmart, amazon or other billion dollar companies when the Democrats have been in power since 2011. The party of labor has failed all of California by subsidizing these companies and big agriculture by providing food, income, medical insurance and housing to these workers. All in the name of providing artificially low wage labor, payed for by taxpayers.
