San Luis Obispo police holding DUI checkpoint Friday night

San Luis Obispo police plan to conduct a DUI checkpoint in the city limits on Saturday evening from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The department selects the location based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests. Officers check licenses and insurance while looking for signs of impairment.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sgt. Tim Koznek said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

I know many say these are not unconstitutional, but from how I read the Constitution they clearly are. The Supreme Court apparently disagrees with me though.

Is this notice for all demographics? If it were only posted at the country club, there would be a very limited number of golf bays going through the check point. As for the amigos? Just saying as I wonder if there is a stereotype that is partially by design.

..the amigas would like to be included as well. :)

The same reason as when AG police have a checkpoint they never have it in the village area, they always give the government speak of the checkpoint being in an area with increased issues but anyone that spends time in the village knows there are plenty of impaired drivers there but the police either have been told or officers instructed that the village is a hands off area.

Certain demographics can’t hold their liquor and are more prone to drunk driving after a couple modelos. We also know that these certain demographics rarely ever face the same consequences for drunk driving as the rest of us would.

So, um, is it Friday, or Saturday?

Don’t drink and drive, then it won’t matter what day it is.
