SLO County Supervisor Gibson hires wife as his legislative assistant

December 2, 2025

By KAREN VELIE

Supervisor Bruce Gibson recently brought his wife back to work for him in his office, several county officials said. Cherie Gibson is currently serving a part-time role as Gibson’s legislative assistant.

Gibson announced earlier this year he would not run for reelection, meaning he will be out of office at the end of Dec. 2026. Gibson’s former legislative assistant, Blake Fixler, then took a position with SLO County Human Resources.

In Nov. 2012, Gibson admitted to having an adulterous affair with his then-legislative assistant Cherie Aispuro and announced plans to seek a divorce from his wife.

Because of the scandal, county staff reassigned Cherie Aispuro, who had previously worked in the Clerk-Recorder’s Office, back to her old department at $68,870 in annual salary plus benefits. Her new salary was approximately double what she made previously in the clerk’s office.

After a short period, Gibson quietly moved his girlfriend and later wife back into his office until she retired with a county pension in 2019.

Bruce and Cherie Gibson are currently attending the California State Association of Counties’ Annual Conference in San Jose.

Ir’s funny that the guy whose job it is to pass laws that the rest of us have to follow feels perfectly fine breaking laws whenever he feels like it. His wife will get the added pension when she retires. I thought Gibson was a millionaire.

Of course he did.

Bruce Gibson is a stain on SLO Cty politics.

NEVER vote for Bruce Gibson again. NEVER let Bruce Gibson earn another dime of American taxpayer money.

P.s.

He’s not the only one but he IS THE biggest (current) stain on the SLOC BOS.

Good news! In 2026 you can vote for Michael Erin Woody to replace Gibson and end the corruption in District 2 for good. Gibson is angling to get his hand-picked replacement voted in but we can not let that happen. https://www.woodyforsupervisor.com/

No RINO’s. NO!

I get your point ATR but he doesn’t belong to a political party. You should talk to him and meet him. He’s the real deal.

The democrat civilians continue to vote in incompetent individuals into office because of their party affiliation.

I used to be a proud democrat, yes a a PROUD democrat, and I can say that the democrats themselves have pushed me out of the democrat party due to their policies, agenda, and radical far left stance in the last 5-10 years.

Now people just vote democrat to simply “vote democrat” and to stand firm on an anti-republican defense even if their morals and values lean more moderate or more toward republican policies and values.

And we end up with leaders like Bruce Gibson. What a joke.

Mrs. Gibson’s minge sure can wield influence, can it not…

This gives new meaning to the phrase“ employee benefits package” lol

Have you seen Gibson in person, I have, and I’d say not much of a benefits package there.

Are all democrats corrupt?…. sure seems that way… clean up the democrat party…

For their nearly 200 years of existence.

I was an County Dept. Administrator when we went through before Mr. Gibson married his Leg. Assistant, but they were clearly engaged in a relationship. At the same time we had a unit supervisor who wanted to date one of his employees. We wanted to transfer the supervisor to another unit so he wasn’t dating someone he was also supervising. County HR made it clear that while a County Supervisor was engaged in the same activity as our employees, there was nothing we could or would do about it. At the least, its’ just really poor leadership.

If it’s legal then there is never time off and how do the other board members feel about this arrangement? Is there an unfair advantage when you can do business 7X24?
