More than 2,000 people rallied against Trump in SLO County

More than 2,000 San Luis Obispo County residents opposed to President Donald Trump and immigration enforcement attended a No Kings rally in San Luis Obispo on Saturday, one of four protests in SLO County on Saturday.

In the rally promoted by the SLO County Democratic Party and Indivisible Action – a political action commitee, speakers accused the Trump administration of attempting to isolate people and tear families apart. A representative of the League of Woman Voters announced they are strong supporters of No Kings protests and fighting against the Trump administration.

Speakers asked attendees to work together against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while providing instructions on how to blow whistles to inform undocumented immigrants ICE is nearby.

Their were multiple booths promoting groups and causes, including the League of Woman Voters, Jim Dantona for Supervisor, Central Coast Coalition for Inclusive Schools and Mothers for Peace.

The group then marched from the courthouse to Mission Plaza while chanting, “Say it loud and say it clear – Ice is not welcome here. ICE out of 805 – ICE out of everywhere.”

Some protesters wore costumes, including a crab, a dolphin,a rabbit, a bunny and from the colonial days.

If we were truly governed by a king or dictator, these protestors wouldn’t be able to disparage our President without being murdered. These protests are an insult to those who are or have truly lived under a dictatorship regime. Thousands of protestors were recently murdered by the Iranian leadership for speaking out against their government and wanting the freedoms that we enjoy and take for granted in this country. Venezuelans, Iranian, and Cubans are speaking out about how these No Kings protests are disgusting to them since none of these people have a clue what it’s really like to live under an oppressive regime. President Trump was duly elected in the 2024 election, so these protestors need to accept that just like those of us who didn’t vote for Biden had to accept his presidency and all the damage he imposed on this country. My friend spoke to a protestor who lives in SLO, and she discovered there were many who were not even from this county who traveled here just to participate in the protest. So, the number of SLO County participants is likely over-stated.

So Americans shouldn’t protest against what they see as an unjust government? That would have been news to those tea party folks back 12-16 years ago who thought Obama was unjust and gathered to voice their opposition. Protest is at the heart of the American experience or maybe you never had a simple class on American history.

Obamacare saved my wife’s life. She had a bad heart valve which according to Republicans is a “pre-existing condition” and surgery was NOT COVERED by insurance. Obamacare covered it!!! Total surgery cost $700,000. Our cost in the end $8500. Anyone that says Obamacare is bad hasn’t gone through the system as a single payer prior to it. WHERE IS TRUMPS HEALTHCARE PLAN??? We are 12-14 years in and ZERO!!!! Republican healthcare is a JOKE!!!

AARP should have had a booth set up! Why am I mainly seeing grey haired, retired folks at these rallies? Trying to relive their “hippie day’s” of the 70s? Always up for a good protest!

Good for them! All accounts suggests the SLO protest was peaceful, orderly, and law abiding. I respect them for that, even while vehemently disagreeing with their position. I can work with folks that dialog rather than just rage scream n break stuff.
