Will Abel change his position on oil drilling?

Jim Boren of the Fresno Bee wonders whether Lt. Governor nominee Abel Maldonado might be willing to switch his long-held opposition to oil drilling off the Central Coast. If appointed, Maldonado would serve on the States Land Commission (SLC), which has jurisdiction over drilling issues.
Gov. Schwarzenegger backs the drilling proposal currently before the SLC. The Bee asked Maldonado for a comment and this was the paper’s response to how our state senator answered on this most sensitive issue:
“Seems like Maldonado is leaving the door open to switch sides on this issue.”
