Although Gumby was an integral part of my childhood, I thought it was really interesting that Mr. Clokey was also the creator of Davey and Goliath, the claymation show that used to play as part of the Family Film Festival on KTLA every weekend. Although the show carried a strong message of morality, I very much enjoyed it as a child. As an adult one of my favorite shows is Moral Orel, and although the creator insists it is not based on Davey and Goliath, I think he is underestimating the influence.. In any case, I think it would be amazing to see the two shows played back to back.

His responsibility for Davey and Goliath inspired me to do a little more research on Mr. Clokey. His story is not at all what I expected and is incredibly interesting. Clokey is actually the surname of the well known composer who adopted Art at age 12, not because both his parents had passed on but because his mother was a self absorbed loser. Joseph W. Clokey (his adoptive father) seems to be a remarkable man, though information about him is difficult to find,
