Survivor of 1906 S.F. earthquake dies
January 2, 2010
The oldest survivor of the historic 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire died earlier this week. Jeanette Scola Trapani, 107, passed away at her home in El Dorado Hills from pneumonia. A third-generation San Franciscan, Trapani was born on Telegraph Hill on April 21, 1902. Only four years old at the time of the earthquake, she still had vivid memories of the disaster, including “the terrible smell of smoke” and being forced to live in a tent city in Presidio.
