April 26, 2010
A male driver who allegedly took his eyes off the road while texting on his cell phone crashed his car and caused a power outage in the neighborhoods surrounding Cal Poly Sunday afternoon. [Tribune]
The driver’s Toyota Camry crashed into a power pole, knocking it to the ground, around 4:15 p.m. on the north sidewalk next to Mustang Village, located near the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Casa Street.
Police say the driver, who was alone in the car, suffered only minor injuries, and was treated at a local hospital.
Meanwhile Pacific Gas & Electric reports that roughly 2400 customers lost their power for a time as a result of the accident. Utility crews were still on the scene as late as 7:30 p.m.
The accident also caused a small fire at a Foothill Boulevard apartment building after a circuit breaker box grounded out.
