Spotlight: What’s happening this weekend
August 7, 2010
It’s going to be another music and food-filled week on the Central Coast for the second week of August.
Before you enjoy the different adult activities being offered up and down the coast, take the kiddies to the San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum. On Friday, the museum will be hosting a farm day where children will be able to get on a John Deere tractor and make farm animals in the art area. The event is during normal business hours and price is the cost of admission into the museum.
This Sunday is turning out to be one of the busiest of the summer on the Central Coast. Start your Sunday off with friends or significant other by enjoying a champagne brunch cruise courtesy of Chablis Cruises in Morro Bay. Attendants will feast on ham, sausages, eggs, fruits, scalloped potatoes and more. Brunch is $42 per person and children under 12 can enjoy the fun for $21. The boat leaves the dock at 11 a.m. and returns at 12:30. The champagne brunch is every Sunday through Dec. 26. For more information, including where to board the boat, visit www.chabliscruises.com.
After a satisfying morning sure to fill a person up, head on over to Arroyo Grande for the Central Coast Chilli Challenge hosted by the Arroyo Grande rotary Club. Winners of the Chilli Challenge have the chance to win up to $300. Attendants get five free chilli tastings and have the opportunity to purchase more for $5. Live entertainment, arts and crafts booths and beer and wine booths will also be available. The event is $5 and will be held at Biddle Park in Arroyo Grande. The challenge kicks off at 11 a.m.
After all the eating and drinking, grab that sober driver and head on over to Avila Beach for Sundays on the Sand. The weekly event hosts live music at the Avila Beach Golf Resort. This week, attendants will have the opportunity to enjoy music from ‘60s pop, dance band Unfinished Business. No outside food or drinks are permitted but food will be available to purchase. The free event starts at 1 p.m. and will run through Aug. 29.
Prepare you bodies for another weekend on the Central Coast on Thursday by sending the teenagers to watch local band PK perform at Downtown Brewing Company. The Templeton natives will perform an all ages show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available through Boo Boo Records or online at ticketmaster.com for $8 in advance or $10 at the door.
For those with more of a reggae style musical taste, head over to Native Lounge where the bar and restaurant will be hosting an all ages show featuring Bootsie Merango. The group has performed alongside local favorites Iration and Pepper. The free show is from 7 to 10 p.m.
