Alleged kidnapper tells judge she’s CIA agent

August 10, 2011

A woman accused of abducting a 4-year-old boy from an Atascadero homeless shelter told a judge during a video-conference arraignment Tuesday that she was “guilty with an explanation.” [The Tribune]

Annette Hale, 52, spoke to Judge John Trice from County Jail through a video feed at San Luis Obispo Superior Court, informing him that she was a “CIA agent” who was trying to protect the boy from his mother.

Hale is accused of kidnapping Jeremy Guthrie from the El Camino Homeless Organization, a shelter in Atascadero, early Friday morning. Police later found the boy after receiving a tip, a call believe to have been made by Hale herself, that he was at a vacant car dealership.

He was returned unharmed to his mother.

Hale, who is being held in lieu of $1 million bail, is charged with one felony count of kidnapping and one felony count of child endangerment. She’s scheduled to be arraigned in person in Trice’s court today at 8:30 a.m.

I knew she was working for Obama.

This was scary from the very beginning. We listened to this as it began and would like to send out kudos to Atascadero PD for their wonderful handling of this situation. They were organized and precise. All the right moves. Great Job Atown PD, Community and city employees, without them, this may have turned out differently.
