Paso Robles considering increasing sales tax

February 12, 2012

Amidst service reductions and under-maintained infrastructure, Paso Robles is considering asking voters to approve a 1 percent increase in the city’s sales tax in November. [Tribune]

Over the past three years, Paso Robles has reduced annual spending by more than $7 million a year and reduced the city’s workforce by 35 percent. As a result, streets are in disrepair, police have stopped responding to non-injury accidents and a city pool is closed.

During a revenue projection study session on Saturday, expectations were that the city would see growing revenue of approximately $1.3 million over the next five years.

Meanwhile, city officials said a 1 percent possible increase in the sales tax could generate about $6.3 million annually.

The answer is: “A perfectly good reason for Nipomo not to incorporate”

Sounds like the city gov of Paso does not know how to calculate prices.

Pursuing this logic, the city would be best served by simply closing down.

Where is Patsy Cline. Or maybe Lisa Solomon can sing the new theme song for Paso Robles-CRAZY. Why would anyone vote for a tax increase for any government agency when the abuse of spending is so evident. Let’s see, we have around $500,000 for a bathroom. For that amount of monery someone could build 2 very nice homes and still pay the excessive fees (TAXES) that these same people want. Then there is the $1,000,000 bike path for 1/4 mile or whatever it is.

Paso Robles you are going to have to do a much better job of spending money before i voluntarily give you any more to waste.

Hopefully this isn’t just a attempt to get people to forget about Solomon and her problems and the problems with those in control of the city. One thing is always said, when people are mad at you find something else for them to get made at and they will forget that they were made at you or at least spread it out

Yes, this sudden Saturday meeting to address budget shortfalls certainly smacks of “damage control”.

Why not tax the whineries..aahhh I mean wineries. We are the happiest place on earth and with a wine retail value of $657,000,000 annually I bet they would love to pay a bit more to keep the ristas returning.

I will vote for the increased tax only if the entire city council, the City Manager, the City Attorney, and the Police Chief are removed at the same time.

The ballot item should read something like this: The city council, the mayor, the City Manager, the City Attorney, and the Police Chief will be removed from office or position and a 1% sales tax will be imposed to be spent only on streets and roads and other city infrastructure.

This is the only way I would vote for a tax increase.

The above should have read….one mortar of dirt shoveled for the restrooms in the park. Sorry! See, I can say it but no politician seems to ever admit to a mistake. It didn’t even hurt!!!

When Solomon is gone and all salaries are reduced by 25%… Give me a break! Who would give more money to App and this stupid Council after watching the way they spend our current tax $$$$$. Check out how much has been spent and still being spent before one mortar of dirt is shovels. How is the red stripping and the redoing of the red stripping because “the color was not right” doing for you all. And how the current $250,000 for consultants in the drug infested arena for a water fountain, park, playground. Yep, give them more $$$.
