California wine fine for China?

April 30, 2012

Large Asian markets such as China may be in line to become a purveyor of fine California wines if the U.S. government has any say in the matter.

Congressman Dan Lungren (R-Gold River) is holding hearings today in Northern California to explore the feasibility of exporting some of this state’s wines to new markets in the rapidly expanding Asian marketplace. Attending the sessions will be representatives of federal agencies, exporters, transportation specialists and industry officials.

Lungren co-chairs the Congressional Wine Caucus with Rep. Mike Thompson, (D-St. Helena). Lungren represents about 100 wineries in his district… and he is a teetotaler.
