Abel Maldonado’s call to repeal Obamacare

June 29, 2012

Abel Maldonado

STATEMENT BY ABEL MALDONADO

We are a nation built on the right to be free and the right to make choices for ourselves, and I believe that government should never force anyone to buy a service. The fundamental truth is that the American people want a health-care solution that expands access to care, preserves choice and lowers costs.

As it turns out, the ‘big gamble’ Rep. Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara, voted to pass without knowing what was in it, was in reality, a big tax on millions of middle-class American families and seniors. The Supreme Court’s decision couldn’t be clearer: Obamacare is a tax and the Congress has the sole authority to repeal that tax. I support a bipartisan repeal and replace of the Obamacare tax.

Across the country, small businesses and working families are struggling to cope with the crippling effect of the Obamacare tax. I believe that health-care decisions should be made by patients, families and their doctors, not by Washington bureaucrats who have forced upon the American people a $525 billion tax increase, a $575 billion Medicare cut for seniors and a 9 percent increase in premiums for working Americans.

Abel Maldonado, R-Santa Maria,  is a former California lieutenant governor and current 24th Congressional District candidate.

Why does unAbel hate Romneycare so much?

He doesn’t. His “stance” is just for show.

Yea no big deal. The Obama plan WILL only tack an extra 1.7 trillion onto the debt we already have and can’t pay. Do people not get the fact we are BROKE in the hole and yet let’s just keep spending money like drunken sailors on whores. Mind boggleing.

BennThereDoneThat,

Can you support your claims with actual documented fact? Or, are you blowing in the wind again?

I think the latter. Repeat a lie dozens of times a day over countless tv and radio stations, you will convince the believers.

How about this? Looks like lying all the way around on both sides.

http://factcheck.org/2012/06/romney-obama-uphold-health-care-falsehoods/

So what have you to say, besides trolling comments.

No problem Ted. I am repeating a number I heard on Paul Harvey Jr.s noon commentary, from this past Friday. I’m sure you can querry it on the net. .

As for slomike and your comment on t.v and radio, so where do you get any information? Do you just stick your finger into the breeze to see which way the wind blows? If we don’t get information from the radio, t.v., paper or net, where do you suggest we get information? I’d sure like to know where you get all your wisdom.

BeenThereDoneThat,

Talking points are fun to throw out there, like you do ad infinitum, aren’t they? You’re on the right path because you gave a link above to “Fact check!” Now, check your facts relative to the 1.7 trillion dollar scenario and report back to us.

Hint: don’t forget about the renvenues offsetting any amount being spent, okay?

Thanks.

Thanks for your hint Ted. You/re are so right.

Notice number 2 in reference to the Government. Revenue is obtained from taxes, licences and fees.

Thank your for acknowledging early comment (down below in thread) that this is a tax!!

I’m on the internet (too much). When I throw out a statistic, I try to show a link to something reputable. When I throw out an opinion, I flame like everyone else. I don’t think I have passed on any numbers used only by commentators. Wait, maybe Maddow. I didn’t know there was a Paul Harvey Jr. Is he as conservative as his dad was?

I only found out about Paul Jr. about five years ago when he subbed for his dad when he wsa sick. Once senior died a while back Jr. took over full time. I honestly can’t say which way his politics are. Most of the time (like what I heard Fri.) he is only reading the news, the way it should be.

Also like you I read a lot, between the net, paper, mags etc. I have a good memory and remember what I have read but I can’t always (because of all the places read) remember exactly which source I read it. I know that if something disagrees with someone’s opinion they think I must have made it up but I can tell you I don’t make up anything. Just pass along.

I used to like Paul Sr., also. He was conservative but changed with the times. The problem with “reading the news” is that someone writes the news, usually with a slant. Roger Ailes puts down the message at the crack of dawn, then dozens of newsreaders say the same thing over and over. By dusk most of the all day listeners figure whatever is said must be true because so many different people have said the same thing. Dick Cheney used repetition to sell Atta meeting with Al Queda in Czechoslovakia. Used to be you needed two independent sources to corroborate a story. Now, say anything. Over and over again. Soon someone like you or I will immortalize it on some obscure blog like CCN. Must be true, I heard it somewhere else as well!

Mike just found a link on the 1.7 trillion. Look down the thread just below this. Comes from the CBO. Guess Paul Jr. might just have read that info. right after all.

Your taking revenues out of context.

You conveniently forgot to mention the revenues and savings of the Affordable Healthcare Act in Medicare and healthcare costs over the next ten years and into the future. Combined with various other revenue-generating provisions, the Joint Committee on Taxation “estimates” Obama’s plan will bring in more than $437.8 billion by 2019.

The government’s nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated the additional revenues coming in to the government to be approximately $525 billion between now and 2019.

http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/114xx/doc11439/WHCC_Presentation-4-12-10.pd

The essence of the Affordable Healthcare Act is really quite simple: regulation of insurers, so that they can’t cherry-pick only the healthy, and subsidies, so that all Americans can afford insurance. Penalties for those that don’t sign up, or wait until they’re sick to do so. A 2.5 percent charge of one’s annual income for a person’s pro-rata share to enter insurance exchanges.

What’s the alternative? Go back to letting the insurance companies continue arbitrarily raise premiums, deny coverage by having pre-existing conditions, denying coverage overall? You’ve read about the horror stories before Congress a few years back.

The costs alone to the people that do have health insurance is rising because, in part, the pay outs of the uninsured receiving free health care now.

What’s your solution?

Ted I’m not taking revenues out of context. I said it is a tax. It is. You can spin it that this will pay for this and this will pay for that but which came first the chicken or the egg? You CAN’T impliment the plan without the money. You can’t get the money without taxing. It is what it is. Can there be savings later? Maybe but my point was that it is a TAX. Would you PLEASE explain how it isn’t a tax?

It’s o.k. I understand that liberals like to spend other peoples money through taxation.

BTDT,

First thing, your silence is deafening on the other points that I brought up for you to answer! Okay, I know, you pick and choose just like the pseudo-christian does with their bibles.

Bottom line, when you’re late on filing your IRS tax return, do they give you an additional tax, or do they give you a penalty? Do you understand simple logic?

Even Romney, the creator of “Romneycare” admits that the Supreme Court ruling is a PENALTY AND NOT A TAX! Do you disagree with Mitt Romney? If you do, then is Romney wrong? If he is wrong, then “Romneycare” with it’s equal mandate to Obama’s plan is also a tax, period! Get it? Sure you do.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/07/romney-campaign-calls-obamacare-a-penalty-not-a-tax/

The 2.5 percent of your income is a pro-rata payment for your healthcare to choose between insurance exchanges in the Affordable Healthcare Act, in the same vein as you make you payments to private insurance companies. Do people call their payments to these companies a tax? No, it is a payment.

“It’s o.k. I understand that liberals like to spend other peoples money through taxation.”

Yada, yada, yada, blah, blah, blah, within the same vein, we can say that the Republicans spend trillions of dollars on two Fraudulent wars, Medicare part D, the Bush Tax Cuts to the wealthy, and all of these entities were NOT FUNDED! Do you really want to discuss this aspect any further?

Stay on topic.

Well I tried Ted. I’m moving on to next thread. We will have to agree to disagree. You aren’t going to change my mind nor I yours. Take care.

Hey Ted. Sorry got busy on other things today and just got back to your question on the 1.7 trillion.

http://loudobbs.com/b/CBO-Report-Shows-Obamacare-Costs-Nearly-Double:-$1.7-Trillion/-838322219105751924.html

Notice that it comes from the CBO. Hmmm. I know that you think you are the only one that has no reason to lie but trust me Ted you aren’t the only one.

That crap is from March. Got anything more recent. Let’s Google it!

Here you go.

http://www.cbo.gov/publication/43362

Wanna bet whether it is negative $1.7 Trillion

Sorry not to check “loudobbs.com” first. I know, I know. He’s just like Walter Cronkite. He “reads” the news. “Cbo” sounded like a better source.

Oh, heck. Also in March, while the GOP echo chamber was filling Paul Harvey Jr.’s (and everyone else’s) news script. This deft refutation of the right wing “reading”. Rachel comes through.

http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/03/15/10704405-what-the-cbo-said-and-didnt-say-about-the-affordable-care-act?lite

You people are beyond help. I made a mention of 1.7 trillion. Then you asked where did I get it. Told you Paul Harvey Jr., then you guys whine where did he get it, so I give a link, now you whine that it is three months back. It is what it is.

BTDT,

“We’re beyond help?” LOL!

What is even funnier is when you have to pound upon the table to take your inept knowledge and insidious spin out of the limelight in the above discussion!

What every Republican fails to mention, is the FACT that this amount will be offset with revenues coming in with the Affordable Healthcare Act, and the streamlining of Medicare.

Notwithstanding, everyone will be responsible under Obama’s plan for their healthcare, something that the GOP heralds ad infinitum, don’t they? This equals additional savings.

Yes, it is what it is, isn’t it?

See my comment above about moving on to next thread. I thank our hosts here for letting us take up so much of there thread space.

Bottom line for me is; Everyone should pay for their own healthcare if at all possibe and everyone/family should take care of their own needs. All this is it a tax or not a tax is BS talk. Who do we think pays for all those that choose not to buy healtcare? And if one cannot afford it, then do not bitch about taxes that keep you healthy. No one rides for free these days.

Jack L,

Yes, a certain faction cannot complain anymore about their healthcare costs rising if they’re against Obama’s plan. This is because, in part, the uninsured that get free care in the emergency rooms now, and that raise costs for others, will have to pay their 2.5 percent pro-rata share or be penalized under the Affordable Healthcare Act. Oh, excuse me, the Republicans now call it a “tax” instead of a penalty. My bad.

Under “Romneycare” that was initiated in 2006 in Massachusetts, and that is equal to Obama’s plan, had a mandated “penalty” if you didn’t join. How fast the Republicans conveniantly forget their own historicity relative to healthcare that was proposed by their own kind.

Logic 101: If it is a “tax” under Obama’s Affordable Healhcare Act, then in turn, it is a “tax” under Romneycare as well because Romney’s healthcare system is also mandated. Republicans, you can’t have your cake and eat it too! The GOP are so predictable.

I am sure that Roger Freberg would even accept this logical deduction.

You know how they say about one thing being said and it goes through the grapevine and comes out different? That’s what you have here. You are saying the repub. are calling it a tax. Yes but who called it a tax first? How about John Roberts. I give you a B+ for spinning it though.

BeenThereDoneThat,

In the 2006 “Romneycare” mandated healthcare plan of Massachusetts, that Romney is trying in vain to run from because it is the impetus of the Obama plan, it is called a “penalty” instead of a “tax”. Whoops!

Of course you know why Roberts of the Supreme Court has erroniously called it a tax instead of a penalty like it is stated in Romneycare, don’t you? Of course you do!

Now that the individual mandate of the Obama plan has acquired the official Supreme Court erroneous status of a ‘tax’, there is no longer any doubt that the Congress, and more specifically the Senate, now, or if Romney gets the presidency, can repeal it pursuant to the simple majority vote threshold available under the Budget Act’s reconciliation process!

At this time, it goes without question that if the measure passes both houses of Congress and reaches Obama’s desk, he will veto it. At least the irony of the process will not be lost because if it is a tax for the Obama plan, then it is a tax as well for Romneycare in Massachusetts.

Now, tell the citizens of Massachusetts that their Romneycare is in jeopardy because it is the same plan as Obama’s Affordable Healhcare Act that the Republicans want to eliminate. It is hypocritical of the Republicans if they don’t pursue the same outcome for Romneycare in Massachusetts. Come on, you have to laugh at this fact!

The Republicans just keep on giving us the most convoluted and hypocritical entertainment that is possible. It makes for great late night talk show entertainment at the expense of our uninsured citizens and the future of our nation.

Don’t mistake Ted that I’m a fan of Romney care. My point only was that this whole calling it a tax thing came about only in the last week. That was what I was commenting on and not all the other stuff that goes with this.

US: In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare). The provision requiring all Americans to purchase health insurance was upheld on the grounds that it is a tax and, therefore, falls within the taxing power granted to Congress by the Constitution. [What would the Founding Fathers who wrote the Constitution have to say about that?]

Who disagrees with this ?

if you don’t believe me, read the frickin’ Constitution !

It’s there in black and white ( or parchment )..

This is not me talking! It’s the CONSTITUTION of the nation that you are living in, and are supposed to be abiding by.

We are already forced to buy auto liability and Calif. contractors are forced to buy a bond ( of which recently increased as much as 1200 % if your credit score sank. Usery.

We ARE in 1931 Germany again in ways that haven’t even been discussed yet.

You have to hear this. That moron, Kevin McCarthy, was talking about why Romney is the best candidate…and McCarthy, the moron, said this direct to Greta Van Ugly Sustern.

“He will make the trains run on time “.

This is what the Fascists said about Mussolini !.

McCarthy is quoting Fascists !

Republicans are evil clown lunatics…just more evidence!

If you idiot Republicans don’t like my facts, confront me. If you go crying elsewhere, I will call you the cowards that you are.

1931 again?

Yes we are living in the 21 century version of 1931.

As the parent of a developmentaly disabled child I know that one day the Dr. Mengele’s of the department of health and human services will demonize my child as a useless eater under nationalized health care.

god svae the republic

Once the ObamaCareTaxHike Death Panels get to work, we are all going to be vulnerable.

As a current recipient of government healthcare ( 60% disabled veteran ), I feel bad for the rest of American. You are ALL screwed now.

.

choprzrul,

The truth, of which you’re not accustomed to, is that the penalty for not buying the insurance is 2.5 percent of household income. It is well in line with other policies that are designed to encourage and promote a particular kind of economic behavior.

On Friday morning, NBC’s Chuck Todd compared the penalty to a speeding ticket and asked House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) to distinguish between the two penalties, or to use the Republican talking point, the two “taxes”. Cantor could not address this comparison and remain intelligent looking in the aftermath.

So, you have your insurance that the taxpayers are paying for, but you don’t want any one else to have it under the same conditions? That’s an insidious concept you have, congratulations!

British government-run health care system is euthanizing 130,000 patients per year. Doctors say this is necessary to control costs. The number is expected to rise as the system continues to lose money. [It is more ‘cost effective’ to sedate patients with morphine and then allow them to die of dehydration and starvation than to treat their condition. This is the future of Obamacare in the US.]

Agenda 21:

The UN’s Agenda 21 / Sustainable Development meeting in Rio ended without a binding treaty, but $513 billion in pledges were made by governments and private companies to fund future environmental programs and so-called green energy. [Do not be fooled. These programs are mere fronts for the real agendas, which are political control over all aspects of commerce and private activity and for corporate profiteering from taxpayer-funded projects.]

stopagenda21,

Of course you were kidding us about the alleged inference to death panels, correct? That was funny, just like Sarah Palins same misnomer that she insidiously still propagates on Faux News.

Do you know what is more of a death panel than what you erroneously proposed without any factual evidence? How about an insurance company denying health coverage to your son because he had a pre-existing condition? That would be terrible, wouldn’t it? Unchristian like to say the least, isn’t it? Sure it is.

Imagine the families that heard this horrific process prior to the current protocols set forth by Obama’s Affordable Healthcare Act that covers preexisting maladies for children. Notwithstanding, this process is more Christian-like, wouldn’t you agree?

Every time I see any mention of Abel Maldonado in the media, I cannot stop myself from adding to his first name, like “Less than-Abel” or “Un-Abel” or if you either have some money for him or promise of votes, “Willing and Abel”. His attempt here to pander to the ultra conservative tea-party mindset is a desperate grab for attention and try to get them (Tea Party voters) to support and vote for him; highly unlikely due to their perception that he is somehow “too liberal” (laugh) or to willing to go wherever the promise of a higher position or more money. Seems like he is pretty transparent, meaning what you see is what you get, an overeager politician who will bend with the wind if it serves HIS best interest alone.
