Wrong way DUI driver collides with Greyhound bus
August 17, 2012
Five people were injured on U.S. Highway 101 in Atascadero in a crash that officers say was caused by a drunk driver going the wrong way on the freeway early Friday morning.
The driver of a grey Honda was headed north on the southbound lane of the highway when he ran head on into a Greyhound bus carrying about 30 passengers between the San Anselmo and Traffic Way exits at about 3:30 a.m. California Highway Patrol officers shut down one lane of the highway which they plan to reopen at about 7:30 a.m.
Four of the injured passengers were transported to the hospital, treated for their injuries and released.
Emergency personnel transported the driver, who was suffering from major injuries, to a local hospital. Officers then arrested the man at the hospital for felony driving under the influence.
