Man shoots himself after long CHP chase
December 10, 2012
A man shot himself in a truck Sunday night and survived after leading law enforcement on a long chase that ended on Highway 46 east of Paso Robles. [KSBY]
California Highway Patrol officers tried to stop the man for speeding on U.S. Highway 5 in Coalinga. Instead of stopping, the man led the officers on a chase that began in Fresno County and ended in San Luis Obispo County.
The man drove his pickup truck off of Interstate 5 and westbound onto Highway 41 and then Highway 46. CHP officers and San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Deputies set up a spike strip on Highway 46 near Union Road, which stopped the pick-up.
The driver then shot himself with a stolen semi-automatic handgun.
