January 16, 2014
The owner of a small plane that crashed into the Pacific Ocean near Oceano on Tuesday has been identified as 63-year-old David Brian Casey of Friday Harbor, Wash.
The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department said in a press release Wednesday that no bodies have been found. However, on Tuesday officials said that human remains and a wallet were discovered near the crash site.
Investigators suspect Casey was the pilot at the time of the crash, according to a press release.
The accident, which occurred shortly after 2 a.m., was witnesses by several bystanders who said they heard what sounded like an explosion and then saw an aircraft crash into the ocean. A team of emergency responders from seven state and local agencies participated in the search and rescue operation.
Investigators continue to search for the wreckage and any passengers.
