Sexual assault reported in downtown SLO
January 15, 2014
An unidentified man is accused of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman in downtown San Luis Obispo Tuesday night.
Around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, the San Luis Obispo Police Department received a report of an assault that occurred at the intersection of Chorro and Palm streets. The victim was walking on Chorro away from downtown when a man grabbed her from behind, pulled up her shirt and grabbed her breasts.
The suspect then pushed her to the ground, got on top of her and attempted to pull down her pants. The victim began screaming, prompting the suspect to run away.
A passerby saw the victim in distress on the sidewalk, stopped to help and called police.
Witnesses last saw the suspect run south across Palm Street and into the parking lot behind the Palm Theater. A silver vehicle fled the area at the same time, but witnesses did not see the suspect enter the car.
The description of the suspect is merely that he is male and was wearing a bulky hooded sweatshirt.
No injuries occurred during the incident.
San Luis Obispo police asks anyone with information about the assault to contact the department. Police also remind pedestrians not to walk alone at night.
