An Atascadero man went to jail and his female partner ended up in the hospital after a domestic dispute caused a rollover car crash in Paso Robles on Wednesday.
Jeffrey Jason Barnes, 34, was riding as a passenger in a vehicle that his female domestic partner was driving. Around 10:05 a.m., the woman was exiting Highway 101 at Spring Street in Paso Robles when Barnes grabbed the vehicle’s steering wheel and activated the emergency brake, according to Paso Robles police.
The car left the roadway and rolled over, trapping the woman inside. Barnes escaped from the vehicle and fled the scene by foot.
Emergency responders arrived soon after and transported the woman to the hospital. She suffered moderate injuries.
A witness who saw the incident noticed Barnes entering Albertson’s grocery store on Niblick Road and called police. Officers responded to the location and arrested Barnes without incident.
Police booked Barnes in San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigators have ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the collision.
