Nipomo High School Principal Michelle Johnson is leaving her post to become the school district’s physical education specialist for students with special needs. Johnson has said she is doing so for personal and professional reasons, but students petitioned to keep her as principal and critics suggested that the district forced her out of her position.
Johnson’s successor John Denno is currently associate principal of Valley High School in Merced. Denno, 41, said he does not want to create a distraction for graduating seniors.
Denno’s salary will range from $100,250 to $111,774.
