Around 12:30 a.m., police received a call about a man standing in the road on Skyway Drive near the Santa Maria Airport and waving at passing vehicles. About a half hour later, security personnel from a business in the 2900 block of Skyway Drive called the police department reporting an opened door and a shattered window leading to one of the business’s offices.
Officers surrounded the business, and shortly after, Isael Vasquez came out and surrendered. Vasquez, 34, attempted to light a fire in a copy room of the business, investigators said.
Santa Maria firefighters then responded to the scene as a precautionary measure.
Police booked Vasquez in Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of burglary and arson. He bail was set at $50,000.
