Sex offender spotted near SLO school, then arrested for parole violation
October 16, 2014
San Luis Obispo police arrested a registered sex offender Tuesday who was spotted walking in front of an elementary school.
But, the arrest had no relation to Robert Anthony Menendez’s presence near Sinsheimer Elementary. Rather, police arrested Menendez, a 35-year-old San Luis Obispo resident for violating his parole agreement.
On Monday, Menendez missed a scheduled parole meeting, prompting law enforcement officers to search for him.
The next morning a citizen noticed Menendez near Sinsheimer Elementary and recognized him as a sex offender from the Megan’s Law website. The person then notified police.
Around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers located Menendez in an apartment on the 1100 block of Laurel Lane and took him into custody. Menendez remains in San Luis Obispo County Jail.
