Ferrara now chasing write-in Hill

November 7, 2014

At the tail end of a race he never expected to run, Arroyo Grande Mayor Tony Ferrara will spend the weekend mulling vote totals announced by county voting officials Friday afternoon showing a write-in candidate leading him by 43 votes.

At day’s end, Ferrara still could not crack 50 percent of the votes cast — his unofficial total was 2,896, or 49.63 percent, against those for “write-in,” 2,939, or 50.37 percent.

Most of those write-in votes will likely go to Jim Hill, whose last-minute entry into the campaign to unseat Ferrara gained momentum rapidly and whose success so far has astounded even the most jaded political observers.

In Arroyo Grande, 387 ballots remain to be counted. Those include 164 vote-by-mail ballots; 184 provisional ballots; and 115 election night non-processed ballots.

At present, the counted “write-in” votes incorporate all names written on the ballot, and may or may not be Hill’s. A ballot-by-ballot examination will be conducted by county clerk-recorder officials.

Then, if a recount is needed, additional ballots — those which did not have a blackened oval next to a write-in’s name– would then be tallied. There are about 900 of those, officials said.

Official results might not be final until Wednesday, and if a recount becomes necessary, this race might not be determined until near Thanksgiving.

Ferrara is the newly-elected president of the League of California Cities, a position now jeopardized by Hill’s unexpectedly strong challenge.

I wish to say Thank you to the people of Arroyo Grande, I say this because I have work with and been on the ARC for 5 years I have seen the way these people operate, The city has been about being a “insider for many years” All of this is a lesion time after time you need to pick the right path. The Mayor of Arroyo Grand lost sight of this, his mind was clouded with his so called power. Now all he will be remembered for will be his dam ego,and for picking the wrong path, just to keep his so called power in tact. Mr Mayor you thought the people of Arroyo Grande were stupid, and did not have the get up n go to get rid of you. in a word What the hell is wrong with you, what is wrong with you? Too many years as a cop Lording it over on people? Get real Man,we are all just people.

I spent over 40 years in Arroyo Grande, Class of AGHS 1981, First year Paulding 1976, I ran a business there for over 23 years , I spent 5 years on ARC,I was a President of a Charity Club there, and today I take great pride in the fact that over 50% of the people Know what right & wrong is , this is just the start I think the house will be clean very soon, the people will speak, and they will as Teddy R. would say carry a Big stick. Mr Mayor when you leave Arroyo Grande, at least Tell all the people your sorry & you were Wrong, I’m sure you will move on as your Ego will not allow you to stay.. Good Luck Mr Mayor,& take the others with you,you are Dismissed! Thank you ! Good Job People!!!

Don’t hold back

Oh, he’s not alone DaddyO.

Thank you sir, for putting into words what so many of us have known for a long time.

I am sorry you have had a negative experience in AG City politics.

What the group of well meaning citizens who are backing the mayor and the crazy website to Free the AG council do not understand is that there are others just like you.

I believe that more and more citizens everyday know things are not right here.

We should be friendly and nice and easy to get to know.

But we are not.

The stories and experiences like yours need to be said.

Lots of people like the Village and the flowers and the restaurants, but do not begin to imagine the unequal treatment for employees and citizens.

THIS MUST STOP!

Wonder what other commissioners think?

The ARC and PC are important.

Jim and Barbara get to pick their own.

Interesting……

Who are Joe’s appointees?

Tom Goss.

To bad you were not able to stand up and voice a real opinion

Jim..here’s is a little something from ALL your supporters. You can sing it in the shower tomorrow as you get ready for work…..

Ladies…Gentlemen…I’d like to introduce you to the next Mayor. Jim “Rocky” Hill.

We should all think about breaking out the Luis XIII and light up a Cohiba Robusto.

It will all be over soon.

Yo Adrian!

Gee Thanks Rock! not sure Hill is Rocky But more power to him , The people might have spoken?

Jim embodies all that the Rocky character represented. It’s about good vs. evil..and we know who prevails.

Yes,,,his name is Wimpy, and he’d gladly replace Iron’s today, for a hamburger on Tuesday.

Why not give Carla a third try at it?

ANYBODY would be an improvement from Iron’s.

Shes much to honest and has integrity. Would never fit in with the current council majority. But you already know that Majority Fan.

Besides the majority of the voters down in the south county are much brighter then those in Morro Bay. They got rid of Jamie Iron’s mentor ,Ol Tony, and kicked Caren Ray to the curb, and voted for Lynn Compton. Not to mentioned were instrumental in electing our new wonderful DA Dan Dow. What a breath of fresh air! Dan Dow, Mayor Hill in AG ,and Lynn Compton for supervisor! Thank you AG and the rest of the south county. You are obviously not asleep at the wheel, as the Birkenstock movement is here in Morro Bay!

A very big thank you needs to go out to the Arroyo Grande Police Association for having a vote of no confidence in Big Tony. I think that is what really gave credit to this overthrow of Big Tony. A gutsy move and they should be acknowledged for it. And hopefully they will be when Big Tony is gone.

Yeah. Ran into an officer last night. They were the ones who really stood up to the bully first, that unleashed this torrent of pent up disgust for the Mayor and his council. It has been a super confluence of events and the this race is going to be won by Jim by the slimmest of margins, that if you take out one element of anything that anyone did to support Jim in the last 5 weeks, we would not have won this race. From POA, to Dave C and Karen V and Dave B, To agag 1 and her side kicks painting the town neon yellow(incredible effort ladies), to people sharing their information within their own network, from Kristen campaigning for Tony, to corner street rallies, to people manning supermarkets, to people speaking out at the councils, to Kevin R sending a flyer for us, to Jim stepping up, on and on and on……apologies to all contributors missed, there are many many many many more.

You pull out any one of these elements in the last five weeks, and the impossible odds would have won out against a dream so fragile that even a whisper could have knocked it over.

The Mayor was ahead 60/40 with one third of the votes having been cast, due to Jim’s late start. In the remaining two thirds of the vote, Jim has closed 20% points. David vs. Goliath has nothing on this story.

So… When you think of the Write-in Jim Hill for mayor campaign there are many reasons for the success:

The AGPOA vote of NO CONFIDENCE

The NO on the Charter backed by the unions.

The energy of the entire group of anti Tony citizens whether posting on this blog, speaking out at city council meetings, manning corners on Saturdays, arranging for robo calls or radio ads, or making and putting up signs.

And the tunes of Pelican….

But Mayor Ferrara made key missteps:

Should have never attended the famed Chamber luncheon

Pissing off Congalton and CCN and seemingly to make it personal

Holding meetings at odd times

Continuously blaming everyone but Adams

Refusing to take ownership of the problem

His tragic comment on KSBY after the election

Tree gate

He could have diffused this..

But there is too much now

The independent investigation will be public soon.

“Disconnected arrogance that blinded him”

Ps I’m sure he underestimated the power of women!

I wasn’t going to mention the fact that Tony Ferrara is clearly a misogynist, but since you brought it up…

Noticed a common thread in your list doglover–

At the Chamber luncheon–Ferrara alerted an unknowing crowd–should have kept quiet

Pissing off Congalon & CCN–not a smart move–should have kept quiet

The first “independent” investigation–not smart–should have come clean

Continuously blaming everyone but Adams–not smart–should have kept quiet

Refusing to take ownership of the problem–blame a few citizens–should have owned up–then kept quiet

Ill advised KSBY comment–not smart–should have been gracious

Treegate–not smart–should have come clean

Now add the vote on the sanitation district suit,

and who knows what else is to come?

Oh, that’s right…the 2nd independent investigation.

No I’m not sure He does understand the power of Woman. He seems to be caught up in him self.

Ya think?

On match.com he went so far as to say..

“And you’ll wait for me to stop talking before you start”

Wow! Scary.

Now that’s gonna get a hook up!

I think the single biggest problem with Ferrara is that he blatantly demonstrated his disregard for voters when he kept trying to get over on them. In other words he believes he’s far smarter and wiser than his constituents. That’s just plain nasty and destructive.

So smart he did not run a campaign.

So smart he makes a phony bill out for 3 guys a truck and a backhoe for $196

So smart he thought his 4 minute commercial at the end of a meeting would win over the voters.

You underestimated your competition.

And we knew all the time what we were up against.

I’m sure he, and his supporters feel ambushed.

But he DID plan to run unopposed on the ballot–

He planned the cover-up.

When you are running unopposed, a campaign is not in any way necessary. The write-in campaign definitely had the best opportunity and seized the moment… and that was very smart!

Oh Gee, I think we might have been talking while he was talking, ooops.

To bad people were listening to us and NOT Tony

Jim is going to win the election because he is a man. The Mayor is going to lose the election because he is a politician. How many “i’s” are in the word politician?

Need I say more?

Jim is a good man.

Our Mayor is a good man gone bad.

Hopefully soon, the Mayor will be gone.

agag1, Tony was always who he is – you just never saw the real Tony. He was nasty and vindictive before he was elected. You finally got to see the real Tony many of us came to know before he was elected.

With all that we are learning,

and the new story regarding the sanitation district,

and the fire authority, etc…

it makes one wonder if there’s anything Tony touches

that doesn’t need looking into?

Sure hope you’re watching League of CA Cities!

I am still in awe that after a third of the ballot had been cast, the Mayor was leading 60/40, and with two thirds of the ballot remaining that the write in has recouped 20% points. This is the most amazing underdog story I have ever seen. I would call that a landslide victory of the informed vote.

I agree.

We have moved a mountain here folks and Tony and the rest of the council know it.

Here’s a video of JimHill supporters in action! Who knew this could happen?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNHhqyKMbJY

And here’s a little tune to go along with it…..

Next time you’re found

With your chin on the ground

There’s a lot to be learned

So look around

Just what makes that little old ant

Think he’ll move that rubber tree plant

Anyone knows an ant, can’t

Move a rubber tree plant

But he’s got high hopes

He’s got high hopes

He’s got high apple pie

In the sky hopes

So any time you’re gettin’ low

‘Stead of lettin’ go, just remember that ant

Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant

Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant

Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant

When troubles call

And your back’s to the wall

There a lot to be learned

That wall could fall

Once there was a silly old ram

Thought he’d punch a hole in a dam

No one could make that ram, scram

He kept buttin’ that dam

‘Cause he had high hopes

He had high hopes

He had high apple pie

In the sky hopes

So any time you’re feelin’ bad

‘Stead of feelin’ sad, just remember that ram

Oops, there goes a billion kilowatt dam

Oops, there goes a billion kilowatt dam

Oops, there goes a billion kilowatt dam

All problems just a toy balloon

They’ll be bursted soon, they’re just bound to go pop

Oops, there goes another problem kerplop

Oops, there goes another problem kerplop

Oops, there goes another problem kerplop, kerplop

I want know why Lois Capps losing to Mitchum is not being discussed.

Because she’s not losing. You’re looking at county results. Look at the stateside results instead: http://results.integrityslo.org/

No so super, Dave (:

At least the Trib is consistent, gotta give ’em that.

You’d think the fact that a write-in candidate,

surpassing the incumbent Mayor,

the newly elected President of the League of the CA Cities,

would warrant at least the mention of Mr. Hill’s name

before

the

4th

paragraph.

Headline reads: A.G. Mayoral race remains close

Somehow that seems like an understatement, all things considered.

Girlscout—please share information with us regarding KB—you clearly have information like SadInsider—if we want fundamental change in AG, we have to have information which helps make that change….

Who the heck is KB?

Kristin Barneich, AG council member.

Oh, THAT KB. Thanks.

someone who is way in over her head. People need to know their limitations.

I second that

Omg dog!

WHAT A GREAT POST!!!
