Victim of crash near Nacimiento Lake identified
July 28, 2015
A man who died in a fiery crash near Nacimiento Lake early Saturday morning has been identified as 22-year-old Richmond Corrales Eskridge.
Eskridge was a resident of Big Sur. He lost control of his Ford pickup sometime between midnight and 5 a.m. on Saturday while driving on Nacimiento Lake Drive north of Heritage Loop Road.
The truck rolled down a steep embankment, and Eskridge was ejected from the vehicle. The truck also collided with a tree, burst into flames and caused a fire that burned about an eighth of an acre.
Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in the crash, but investigators are waiting on autopsy results to make the determination. CHP officers say Eskridge may have survived had he been wearing a seatbelt.
The fire extinguished on its own. Cool temperature and recent rain helped put out the blaze.
