An Atascadero woman is in the hospital after a car struck her Sunday evening as she was attempting to cross Highway 101, according to the CHP.
Shortly before 8 p.m., Karen Groves, 56, was illegally crossing Highway 101 near Vineyard Drive in Templeton when she was hit by a 2003 Toyota Corolla. Emergency personnel transported Groves to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center with major injuries. She is expected to survive.
California Highway Patrol officers identified the driver as an 18-year-old who was traveling northbound at between 65 and 75 mph. The teen spotted Groves, but was unable to avoid hitting her.
The teen, who was not injured in the collision, did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and no charges were filed.
