Man botches SLO carjacking, socks woman in the face

A 40-year-old man attempted to carjack a vehicle from a 20-year-old woman in San Luis Obispo Monday evening. After failing to do so, he entered a coffee shop, punched a 22-year-old woman in the face and attempted to steal the business’s cash register.

Just after 7 p.m., San Luis Obispo police began receiving calls about a man who tried to carjack a vehicle from a woman in the Laguna Village Shopping Center.

Transient Albert Ramirez grabbed the woman’s door handle and tried to force his way into the vehicle, according to a SLOPD news release. The woman locked the car just before Ramirez tried to open the door.

Ramirez then tried several times to break the driver’s window using his elbows. After failing to break into the car, he fled into the Nautical Bean where he approached a 22-year-old female employee who was trying to close the store. Ramirez immediately punched her in the face, causing her to fall on the ground.

The female employee suffered minor lacerations to her face.

Ramirez then tried to steal the cash register. He attempted to lift the register but failed. He then shoved the cash register off the counter.

While Ramirez was inside Nautical Bean, a male employee grabbed a large kitchen knife from the back of the coffee shop in order to protect himself and his injured coworker. Ramirez fled when the worker entered the front of the business with the knife.

The male employee then followed Ramirez and called 911. He relayed their location to the 911 dispatcher, and police officers located Ramirez.

Officers arrested Ramirez at the Madonna Road post office and charged him with attempted carjacking, assault, burglary and vandalism. Police booked him in San Luis Obispo County Jail, where he remains with bail set at $50,000.

Another sad event in SLO, I like shopping and driving around the town, but if you read New Time’s police reports you know on almost every corner there is something bad going on. How can we protect ourselves from those stupid people wishing us harm? Lock or doors look around be aware!?? It is so awful to have to be afraid in our cities and some of the ‘homeless’ make our quality of life less secure. No matter how wonderful, beautiful or cities some people don’t appreciate it, they want to rob us and hurt us. Be careful out there, especially in shops and women in cars in parking lots. It is really a dang shame.

I sure hope he doesn’t get a plea bargain. He needs to go to trial and get the full sentence.

The above link is to a local agency that provides self defense training to women ages 12 and up. They charge $15 a person, but will not deny anyone for inability to pay.


Women need to send out the message that they will not make an easy victim. It is going to be VERY difficult, probably not worth the effort it would take to subdue her. Know what I’m saying?

SLO’s golden days are over but most here aren’t even aware of it or simply don’t care. Sad state of affairs to find meth pipes in the park, needles in bathrooms, and users in broad daylight who have no fear of getting busted because they’ll be right back out the next day – and not a single voice of outrage. Not only is there no public outrage, our friends and neighbors are applauding the city’s “growth and progress”. Give me a F–ing break, the last thing we need is more “affordable housing” and another vape store.

I hate to break it to you, but you are out of touch with reality. Crime has dropped tremendously across the country, even in San Luis Obispo as the population has gone up. And San Luis Obispo USED to have affordable housing, and it was affordable not because of some government program, but because wealthy snobs from out of the area hadn’t driven the prices sky high, and driven the cost of fees to build a home upwards of $80,000 with their ridiculous codes. Also, we used to have more opportunities for lower class people to work, live in a halfway decent place, and be able to hang around and have fun socially without spending a bunch of money.


Now, back to directly addressing your comment. You know why there isn’t a single voice of outrage about the things you’re talking about. Because NOBODY CARES. And you shouldn’t either. Worry about yourself. There are FAR more important things to care about, like the incredibly overpaid and overequipped police that people like you have brought to our town to drive the cost of housing up.


You’re right, section 8 style affordable housing is going to bring the wrong kind of people in, but apparently, overpriced housing brings the wrong kind of people in too.

Because we have overfilled our prisons, thanks to people like you, who are so worried about “oh my gosh they’re doing drugs out in the open for SHAME someone think of the children.” So now it makes it a lot harder to put away people who actually commit crimes that victimize others. These homeless and transients are not the “prettified” reality that you claim. They are drug addicts, alcoholics, scum that have alienated every person who has ever cared about them through their lawless behavior.


This lifestyle is their choice and fools like you and those in government are stupid enough to let them live this lifestyle in our community while being paid for it.


Whatever governmnent subsidizes it creates more of. That’s Econ 101 .
