Bernie Sanders to rally in Santa Maria
May 26, 2016
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will hold a rally at Santa Maria High School on Saturday. Sanders’ rallies have often drawn tens of thousands of supporters.
Doors will open at the high school at 10:30 a.m., according to the Sanders campaign. The Vermont senator will be speaking earlier in the day at Santa Barbara City College. Doors open at 7 a.m. for the Santa Barbara event.
The Sanders campaign has dubbed the Santa Maria rally “A Future To Believe In Santa Maria.” Admission is first come, first served, and RSVPS to the free event are strongly suggested.
Campaign staffers are requesting, for security reasons, that attendees do not bring bags and only bring small personal items, like keys and cell phones. Weapons, sharp objects, chairs and signs or banners are prohibited.
Parking at the event is expected to be problematic. Santa Maria’s bus lines five and six stop at the high school. The campaign also encourages carpooling.
Sanders currently trails his rival, Hillary Clinton, by nearly 800 delegates, when factoring in super delegates. Including super delegates, Clinton leads Sanders 2,305 to 1,539. A Democratic presidential candidate needs a total of 2,383 delegates to clinch the party’s nomination.
Anyone who wishes to attend Sanders’ Santa Maria rally can RSVP on the campaign website.
