Santa Maria foster father sentenced to 125 years

A 55-year-old Santa Maria man was sentenced to 125 years in prison on Wednesday for repeatedly raping a foster child in his care. The sexual assaults began when the child was 8 years old and continued for two years.

Last month, a jury found Norbert Manalisay Cruz guilty of seven felony counts including sexual intercourse with a child 10 or younger, oral copulation of a child 10 or younger, sexual penetration of a child 10 or younger and aggravated sexual assault of a child.

From 2009 through 2011, Cruz was the victim’s foster father. He repeatedly sexually abused her and made her promise never to tell anyone.

In 2011, the child was moved to a new foster home. She then told her new foster mother what Cruz had done.

In a statement to the court, the now 15-year-old victim said she cooperated with Cruz at the time in the hope of having a normal life.

These things come very well disguised as humans….it is kind of amazing-when you think about it. They look and sound human-even eat food and marry others–all kinds of stuff. And, when you see one of them on the streets, interview them for a job or give them a foster child–they are cloaked–and you still cannot see it. It is only when they are alone with their prey-this is when the malvolent soul emerges–as their darkness steals innocence, inflicts pain, threatens harm (if children tell)–these twisted carcatures that imitate people are seemingly unstoppable. They are unadulterated evil.
