Why is Andy Caldwell running for Congress?

Something happened that has caused me to do something I never intended to do, and that is declare my candidacy to be your representative in Congress.

It all has to do with Ronald Reagan’s famous words, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

Looking at what Congress is doing to us today, it struck me: the freedom extinction generation is here today! Socialism is on the march in America.  I am running for Congress because America is dangling on this precipice of socialism, and if we fail to stand up and fight to preserve our freedom and liberty, it may be lost forever. We can’t let that happen.

The push for socialism is being led by Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez with the explicit support of our Congressman Salud Carbajal. These politicians are pandering to loud voices and protesters who prefer the convenient lie of socialism to the hard truth of freedom. They believe socialism promotes equality — but history has shown that socialism strips away freedom and dignity, while delivering only poverty and totalitarian control.

As Winston Churchill put it, “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of misery.”

I have been fighting against such corruption and waste for almost 30 years, as the executive director of The Coalition of Labor, Agriculture and Business of Santa Barbara County (COLAB).

COLAB is a non-partisan coalition that has benefited from the participation of nearly every union in this county, as well as, farmers, ranchers, manufacturers and industrialists, with a special focus on locally owned businesses. I have managed to keep the coalition together by focusing on policy, not politics, and I intend to do the same in the halls of Congress.

I am the son of a career U.S. military veteran, who was subjected to unimaginable brutality during the Bataan Death March, and an Austrian immigrant who suffered during World War II before arriving in America as a war bride. I will not allow those sacrifices to become meaningless on my watch.

America gave my family freedom, but it came at a steep price. I am running for Congress to preserve the freedom for which they suffered and the liberty which gave them hope.

I have been a public figure on the Central Coast for nearly 30 years. I have shared my values and opinions on the radio, television and in newsprint, in a manner that hopefully demonstrates that I am not a partisan. Frankly, I don’t think either party is serving our country well right now, and I would like the opportunity to help change that.

America needs more statesmen who will promote policy, not politics, while attempting to appeal to common sense, reason, traditional values and constitutional principles. If you support me, I pledge to keep doing what I have always been doing, and that is fighting to preserve the ideals of this great nation.

In Congress, I will fight to put an end to corruption and partisan bickering, work to drive down prescription costs with transparency and increased competition, preserve private insurance like MediCare supplements, protect individual rights and liberties, and stand against efforts to gut our Constitution.

I still believe America is a shining light on a hill, a beacon of liberty for the whole world to see and hopefully emulate. I value our heritage as a nation of immigrants and the melting pot of the world.

This election is no longer between Republican and Democrats, because the Democratic Party that I was once a member of is gone, having been replaced by progressive socialists who want to tear down our institutions and tear up our Constitution.

I know what I believe and why I am running — and I challenge Salud Carbajal to debate in every community in the district. Let’s speak in our own voices and give voters the opportunity to compare the American ideals that I will fight for, versus the socialist agenda Salud has championed that includes the Green New Deal and a Medicare-For-All plan that will crush our freedoms and bankrupt America.

Glad to see all the “you cannot win” comments! Just sit on your hands and gloat.


Know that Andy not only CAN WIN he WILL WIN. Because I and many others including Democrats, No Party Preferences and Republicans are SICK and TIRED of the GREEN NEW DEAL that Carbajal Co-Sponsored with AOC showing he has lost his way.


Andy is real solutions for real people that roll up their sleeves and get things done.


Thank you Andy and your family for making this sacrifice to serve this country and the people on the central coast.


Patriots like Andy should start playing the “farm system” taking a page from the Progressive playbook, infiltrating city councils, school boards, etc. This “hail Mary” move wastes precious resources. Running for City Council, Supervisor, School Board really tests the true grit of a person to first see how they will deal with the petty insanity. No one is gloating, rather we are lamenting the utter devastation that the mind numbing socialists have brought the Golden State. Why sacrifice a good candidate like Caldwell? Put him in a place he can win and make a difference.


Andy, this is good news. Thanks for jumping into the fight. Hopefully your campaign can raise unlimited funds, because that is what the leftists have to ‘re-educate’ their ideologue followers.


I’ve known Andy for 30 years. He will do what he says he’ll do for the Central Coast because he is not a politician and isn’t looking for a career! Remember 2016? He will raise substantial sums and large donors will see that this time we really do have a viable candidate. Too bad you can’t get past his voice mercut1469, but he can out-debate Carbajal every day of the week. He has our family’s support!


Finally a candidate with a backbone. I am so tired of candidates running to the left and thinking they are going to get people who voted for Reagan to run to the polls. Expose Carbajal for the liar he is and you will win.


Ladies & Gentlemen,


It is a fact that Salud Carbajal is part of the problem in Washington D.C., and he reliably votes with Bernie Sanders, Nancy Pelosi and AOC 98% of the time, so his politics are out of step with the working families of the 24th District. Salud Carbajal is a career politician. :(


Andy Caldwell is not a perfect candidate, but he is EASILY better and his viewpoints and positions are more in line with average voters in the congressional district. Andy Caldwell does not blindly align himself with partisan politicians, and he has not made his living off of being a career government employee. He offers candid answers to the myriad of problems facing our district and he does not duck issues because of political expediency.


After 22 years of hyper partisanship by whacky far-left Democrats, it is time for a new voice in the 24th District. Under Carbajal and Co., we have seen the problems we have go unanswered, and working families deserve a representative who will go to Washington D.C. to fight for us, not leftist extremism.


Speak truth to power.


I’ve never heard of you but if you truly believe in what Ronald Reagan started in the 1980s you will have my vote and support. As a libertarian, freedom is our life blood and government is what clogs the arteries of freedom.


Andy will get the solid rock 30% of registered voters in the district who vote by party

( maybe even 35%). But he lacks resources and is over-estimating his name recognition and electability. He will get my vote also. But absent resources, public office experience or more than just opinions and really not having any solid professional accomplishments outside of a radio show and COLAB, he has a TALL mountain to climb. If Fareed, Judge Stoker, Kokonnen, Bordonaro, Firestone, Mitchum, Maldonado could not slay the dragon with far more experience, name recognition and money, then we already know the outcome.


Good luck to you Andy, but without a whole lot of money, you don’t have a chance, and I don’t think wealthy donors are going to waste money on a congressional district which has been solidly Democratic for the last 22 years. Also, your idea to debate Mr. Carbajal “in every community in the district” is really a bad idea because he is far more likable than you are. I mean, face it Andy, your voice is like listening to nails on a chalkboard.


I like what Andy has to say politically but I’m going to have to agree with you. His voice is hard to listen to. More than that, in dealing with him on a social level, I found him to be condescending and just overall not very nice.

I’ll be paying attention to what he has to say and hopefully he can win me over but in my past dealings with him…unfortunately, I’m not impressed.


Andy is the best candidate out there! I’ve listened to his show for years, and I’d love to see him send Salud C. into retirement!
