Local Democratic Party supports Tianna Arata, blames sheriff

Tianna Arata, in the center, stomping on a burnt flag

Statement from the San Luis Obispo County Democratic Party

The San Luis Obispo County Democratic Party (SLOCDP) is deeply disturbed by the San Luis Obispo Police Department’s recommended charges against Black Lives Matter activist Tianna Arata. We call on District Attorney Dan Dow to drop the unwarranted, heavy-handed felony charges against her, and look to the San Luis Obispo City Council to publicly address the incident directly, as well as to implement corrective action to reverse the political weaponization of the city’s police department.

Our County Sheriff Ian Parkinson’s inflammatory words — which prompted the civil activism of our friends and neighbors — and the injection of incendiary commentary by our district attorney during a First Amendment-protected gathering, violate our democratic principles, divide our community, and corrupt the rule of law.

SLOCDP condemns attempts to use our legal system to stifle free speech and further partisan political agendas. Instead of escalating tensions, SLOCDP demands fair, just, and equitable treatment for all people by our sheriff and district attorney, as well as by the various chiefs of police throughout our county, and calls on all elected officials in our county to provide the robust oversight which will guarantee it.

SLOCDP declares that weapons of war have no place in our community, especially military grade chemical weapons such as those used on protesters during a peaceful demonstration on June 1. Because the possession of such weapons is unnecessary and dangerous, and their use contributes to our county becoming known nationally as a place where law enforcement tramples on the 1st amendment, they must be renounced and abandoned.

SLOCDP will continue to challenge and work to dismantle the structures that generate enduring racial, economic, political, and social inequity. We will promote racial justice through fair, just, and equitable governing of all public-serving institutions and in the formation of public policy. We condemn the disproportionate prosecution of Black, Indigenous, and people of color, evidence of institutional racism. We will continue to push for societal transformation, to make it clear that black lives matter and that there is no place for racism in our country and in our county.

Interesting how the democrat party is anything except democratic

When did they become The party of lawlessness. This is absurd and this balm group may single handedly get trump re-elected.

According to Civqs.com Polling; BLM currently has a +12 approval rating.

The intensity you feel for BLM is just the hate distilling down to a smaller and smaller group like a fine whine :-) Good luck in November.

“…According to Civqs.com…”

LMFAO!

…it’s a whole lot better than it being pulled from your rear like most who post here. Or their gut! Can you offer up a conservative poll that would help you make a point?…or does your natural gas suffice?

I feel no frustration, only fascination. Every election pawns and dupes on both sides get supported financially for a limited time to invoke passion usually via rage and turnout to vote. After the election they are cast aside. I could care less who wins in November, I only marvel at the stupidity of these people who feel emboldened albeit temporarily.

Btw. Isn’t it intellectually lazy to resort to claiming the dreaded racism in every argument rather than debate as an intelligent individual?

So long once that was SLO…your leadership has left you to sail down the Salinas river basically saying to f u all if you are not Blue…. Paso was once a great place to live also but now we are Ca refugees like many others and have rapidly left the building…

What a freaking mess. What are you talking about Democrats? Completely blindsided by the desire to support blacks and other minorities you’ve forgotten what Martin Luther King, Jr. and John Lewis stood for. Yes, black lives matter, but this movement led by a nonlocal extortionist is NOT the message to get behind. File criminal charges and stop this craziness. I hope Heidi is done in November. I’m an independent and am appalled by ALL the political antics right now. (In case you can’t read between the lines, BOTH parties are extreme if you ask me)

You’re absolutely right. Most people — at least those with any interest in politics, seem to live at one extreme or another. Give that the political spectrum is pretty much a circle/horseshoe, those extremists are a lot alike, and furthest away from moderates like myself.

Another opportunity for a substitution test to see if SLOCDP are hypocrites. If Turning Point USA students blocked the freeway the Dem’s would want them arrested or at a minimum have the proper permit. Parkinson didn’t arrest Tianna, Cantrell did. Parkinson denounced the George Floyd death on June 1st. Apparently, if Parkinson doesn’t see systematic racism in this county and he is “inflammatory”. Protesters are clearly gaming the permit process, because any protest after the 3 day grace period requires a permit. After the first week, the BLM protest were not spontaneous. So, SLOCDP can show their support for the community by paying all 18 or 19 missing permit fees retroactively. Put your money where your mouth is SLOCDP if you are supporting these un-permitted planned protests that occurred more than 3 days after Parkinson’s speech.

When I was a kid 60 years ago, my folks would give the old “sticks and stones…” speech to me after being bullied. Now we have snowflakes that tolerate blacks calling each other “N—–” every tenth word in videos and podcasts, whether it’s meant affectionately or in malice. The rest of us get forced diversity training at work to be sensitive.

what the ****!?! See what happened to ANTIFA in Sturgis? Keep your county, Dow.

Who cares about angsty youth in a small town when you have Bannon and Trump SCAMMING us, my fellow Americans, for a wall that was never built. The cons played us.

Why on earth did you send money to Bannon to build the wall? You must have, because you state “The cons played us”.
