Sheriff’s deputy shot in the leg in Templeton, gunman killed

A gunman shot a San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputy in the leg near Highway 101 in Templeton Thursday morning, prior to being killed in a shootout with law enforcement. 

The gunman opened fire at about 10:20 a.m. near Theater Drive and Templeton Cemetery Road. 

A deputy suffered a single gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to the hospital. 

Numerous law enforcement officers responded to the scene along Theater Drive Thursday morning. Shortly following the shooting, a collision involving a semi-truck occurred nearby on Highway 101.

The sheriff’s office is advising the public to stay away from the area.

Hmmm not very smart to be someone with warrants that close to the station with his car broke down or whatever. Then to be on foot. Im thinking he had something on him he wanted to hide and not be caught with. I also think he did not want to go back to prison for what ever reason, so he ended his life by engaging the LEOs. Sad story but Im glad he did not go into the mobile home park and take hostages.

Just saw the update and he had intentions to shoot it out….Hearing his charges, what a jerk.

Sheriff’s office now saying the shooter “is a convicted felon with an outstanding felony warrant. He has an extensive history of multiple weapon charges and is a member of a white supremacist gang. The Sheriff’s Gang Task Force was conducting a criminal investigation on him prior to the shooting.”

So before you law-and-order parrots start blaming someone other than this felon for this shooting — may I say, shut the f@#k up.

Cops rarely shoot unarmed white people is a more accurate statement.

Often they don’t even shoot white people when armed.

In Charlotte NC Cops arrested the church shooter without shooting him, and bought him a BK Whopper on the way to jail because he was hungry afterward.

Actually you should check the stats before you post…unarmed white people are shot by cops at almost three times the rate of unarmed blacks…..I don’t blame you for not knowing this since the media works real hard in keeping it from you…..

If you read my post; I said I said cops RARELY shoot unarmed White people. Which is a logical and statistically undeniable assertion.

There was no comparison between races in that initial statement. It compared a white population only; those who are unarmed and shot by cops against those who are armed and shot.

Why can I make that statement? Because cops rarely shoot unarmed people period; black or white.

You missed the point. But nice stats. But in reality; with the racial distribution of our nation what it is (blacks 12% of population, whites about 50%)… They, unarmed white people, actually should be shot about 4 times as much as unarmed blacks. So you really whiffed with your use of stats.

Again, completely biased assumptions rather than facts or statistical data. You assume that crime is committed at the same rates based on ethnicity and/or that all police contacts follow the demographic breakdown of our country….either are completely not true. I can concede that any unarmed person should not be shot, however with that said, it is not always clear that a subject is “unarmed” (which seems to have a different meaning depending on the person making the claim). What is clear however is that police do not shoot a compliant subject, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, etc.

I well aware of the point I made. Cops don’t shoot a lot of people period. You read more into than necessary.

Bias does play a role in our application of the law.

Whites can patrol around, armed, in vehicles and they are cheered on. Even lauded here on this site. A black dude looking at a rifle to purchase in a Walmart gets shot by police. Or Tamir, a child at a park, with a toy gun gets shot. Blacks with a gun are a threat, whites are not perceived that way. Is it that hard for you to see? Both possess the same 2nd Amendment right.


A white man gun with a gun is not feared, but a black man is. Bias is the point.

Idiots are everywhere, on both sides of the isle. Extreme claims and/or offensive & racist comments are made by all walks of life. These statements and actions don’t prove that systemic racism exists, or that application of the law is grossly biased. You are correct in that bias is the point…your bias towards police and white privilege occludes you from seeing the truth. Yesterday, a white man with a gun was not free to “patrol around” with a gun. In fact he was feared, then shot & killed because that white man also had the intent and ability to attempt to take the life of a deputy. If you read more into things, which certainly is necessary given the vast amount of

inaccurate & biased information out there, this racist low-life was known by authorities, wanted by authorities, and it sounds like this deputy put his own life at risk to apprehend a bad actor, who happens to be a white male.

Mr Yan, I’d love to see the facts that support your claims. But I, as well as you, know that they are based on personal bias rather than on fact. I’m sure you were probably not in NC and have formed your opinions on the matter from either hearsay, or unconfirmed reports disseminated by irresponsible media outlets.

Like me, you too can read the local paper in NC on the dang internets. I don’t need to live there to be informed. Thinking so is rather inane. From the local paper, Charlotte Observer (a trusted rag); “Charleston shooting suspect’s Burger King meal gets national attention”.

It must take a lot of effort on your part to not be informed.

I assume your willingness to insult everyone on here must be a manifestion of your insecurities in your beliefs & ideologies. I, unlike many on your side, took the time to read your data with an open mind. Like many on your side, you overlook some key facts that don’t support your ideology (conveniently). He was only bought a meal as part of the negotiation of his surrender…he surrendered peacefully, and quietly, so the police did the honorable thing and held their end of the bargain. Had he not gone peacefully, It more than likely would not have had the same results.

I did not make assumptions, your position was pretty clear: that Charlottesville cops were racist because they bought Dylan Roof a whopper. My point was that your facts were based on feelings rather than statistics. I did concede that your reference to the BK story is accurate, bit of course it was not a display of racism…it was a negotiation tactic to get him to surrender peacefully, which he did. I’m not going to make another assumption here, but your post had the appearance that you think they should have shot him anyways.
