Detectives caught a man on probation driving in Paso Robles last month with multiple stashes of drugs in his car.

On May 17, at about 5:20 p.m., detectives with the Sheriff’s Special Operations Unit and Gang Task Force, as well as probation officers, contacted a driver who had just pulled into the parking lot of a shopping center in the 100 block of Niblick Road. The driver, Edgar Josue Monge, 40, was known to be in violation of his probation, according to the SLO County Sheriff’s Office.

Monge is currently on post-release community supervision for a 2019 conviction for sales of a controlled substance. He has no known address, sheriff’s officials say.

Detectives searched Monge’s vehicle and found a backpack in the backseat that contained a large amount of methamphetamine. Detectives also discovered a hidden compartment between the backseat and the frame of the vehicle. They found a locked pouch inside the compartment, which contained a large amount of fentanyl.

Additionally, the search netted counterfeit Oxycodone M-30 pills, heroin and drug paraphernalia indicating the sale of narcotics.

In all, investigators seized about $11,000 worth of narcotics. Detectives also seized more than $2,000 in cash.

Detectives arrested Monge for two counts of possession of a controlled substance for sale, as well as for transporting or selling a controlled substance. Monge posted bail on his probation violation and was released on his new narcotics charges, in line with the statewide emergency bail schedule.

In a normal, orderly, civilized society that was truly serious about illicit drugs, drug abuse, drug overdoses and destroyed lives, this dangerous recidivist drug dealer/pusher would not be permitted to return to society to sow more death and destruction.

Decriminalize this stuff. Unless they burglarize someone for money, who cares? Conservatives constantly cry about freedom but when it comes to drugs or abortion, no way.

The Declaration of Independence lays out promises that each of our citizens are entitled to—Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. If people choose to use drugs in their “Pursuit of Happiness,” so long as they’re not bothering other people or disrupting other people’s ability to pursue their rights, that is a right that is protected. If they wish to alter their own consciousness, then more power to them.

I didn’t see any guns or read that this man was violent. He was simply a capitalist, responding to demand. Release him and save the taxpayer thousands of dollars.

Agree. Ironic how in the bible belt marijuana is generally illegal, they boycott abortions, yet corporal punishment to children is a ok; cursing, hitting, slapping etc, even though the surgeon general says it causes brain damage, trauma, and adverse behavior as adults. Irony. Love how people say less gov yet support more socialist gov policies, and love to let the free market bill everyone during a tragedy, like Private oil and the NRA. Putin invades Ukraine, raise oil prices and sell it, then say we need more energy independence as we sell it all and extort our citizens. Plastic corporations tell us to recycle, only 10 percent of all plastic ever made has been recycled. Oy vey.

Decriminalize? Not such a bad idea for the end user. I do agree, instead of sending them to jail, they should be sending them to rehab and drug classes. But Selling? That should still be illegal. First, They are facilitating the destruction of the user, the families, society, etc… anyone using Meth is a walking menace to society. Plus, I seriously doubt a drug dealer is paying taxes on all that $ he’s making. So Tax Fraud. Then you have the unregulated/dangerous products . And are you expecting a drug dealer to get a business license? Not to mention the Manufacturing end of the drugs. Just can not imagine a “Legal” Meth lab next door to MY family!

A society that values great freedom requires a people that exercise great responsibility.

“statewide emergency bail schedule.”

What an absolute joke.
