The nightmare of Kamala Harris’ dream

In a recent speech in San Francisco, former VP Kamala Harris ripped President Donald Trump’s first 100 days as a “dangerous betrayal of the nation’s founding principles.” Unfortunately, her commentary missed the mark.

As a former Democrat who no longer recognizes today’s version of that party, her remarks left much to be desired. With the radical so-called Progressives taking over the party I once proudly supported, I’ve concluded that the Democratic Party is no longer democratic.

Kamala’s remarks were given at a 500-person fundraising gala at San Francisco’s Palace Hotel. She chose the friendliest venue to deliver her anti-Trump statements.

Unfortunately, her remarks as set forth below fell well short of reality:

  • “… instead of an administration working to advance America’s highest ideals, we are witnessing the wholesale abandonment of those ideals.” Charging that Trump’s efforts were “abandoning” those ideals when the ideals of the Biden/Harris administration are highly questionable themselves and misleading. Even the steep costs of their own bloated bureaucracy to keep them afloat never worked when they were in office.
  • “… cutting the size of government, privatizing services, giving tax breaks to the rich, and slashing public education – are the outcome of decades long efforts to reshape the nation’s norms and safety net.” Cutting the size of an inefficient bureaucracy that exploded under their administration when it vaulted us into a $37 billion debt was nothing to brag about. Providing tax breaks to the rich when they were able to fuel the massive campaign fundraising efforts that dwarfed their rivals in the elections of 2024 was at least disingenuous. Slashing public education when the inept and ham-fisted performance of the teacher’s unions and the mismanagement of our public schools in educating our children has only gotten worse rather than better. Action to right these wrongs has been long overdue.
  • “A narrow, self-serving vision of America where they…leave everyone to fend for themselves…while abandoning allies and retreating from the world. Over the last four years, the Biden administration has stood by and watched as America has gotten weaker and weaker. By emphasizing DEI training of our military, recruitment to our armed services plunged. By contrast, under the Trump administration, recruitment levels have soared beyond expectations. Trump’s actions to urge our allies to play a larger role in foreign policy will only help make the world a safer place, actions that would never have happened under the Biden/Harris administration. Think about how Kamala Harris rather than Trump were to interact with such characters as Vladimir Putin, Iran, North Korea, and China in today’s world. Under today’s threats, that prospect would be far more frightening under Harris rather than Trump.
  • And what would Harris do about the rights of the LGBTQ+ community? Would her concerns about the erosion of rights for the LGBTQ+ community result in having men compete in women’s sports? There is no greater example of how much the Democratic Party has changed than in addressing this issue today. It was the Democratic Party that led the charge for Title IX to protect and advance women’s sports. Now would the Democratic Party back track and retract its support for Title IX?  Nothing better illustrates how much the Democratic Party has changed.
  • Finally, Harris talked about “courage” by “standing together”. Who would you really trust in dealing with Putin, China, and Iran in today’s world? With Democrats now becoming the protectors of Hamas and radical Palestinian protesters, where would Kamala stand? And by citing the viral video of elephants reacting to a recent earthquake in San Diego by forming a circle to protect their calves, has she forgotten that the elephant is the symbol of the Republican Party?

Whether Kamala Harris runs for president again in 2028 or for governor of California in 2026 has yet to be determined. Right now, it looks like she’s favoring the former rather than the latter.

Regardless of her decision, the prospect that Harris might realize her dream of grasping either position would be an unimaginable nightmare.

Memo to aspiring democrat’s who seek office… do not tell me what our principles and values are… that’s a sure way to turn me off… and stop gaslighting me… speak the truth and work with republicans and president Trump for the good of the nation…

Weird to keep talking about Kamala. The author should spend some time in nature, observe flora and fauna, take a breathe, touch some grass or perhaps toke it?

I don’t care what party you belong to, these last 4 years under the Biden/Harris Administration were a nightmare–financially, immigration, woke agenda, etc. Our country suffered greatly under their realm and unless you slept through the last 4 years, you’re delusional to think otherwise. If Harris is elected Governor of this state, which is already suffering under a far-left agenda and a one-party rule, things will get a lot worse. Many (Republicans, Democrats, and Independents) I know have moved out of California because of the far-left, one-party rule that is destroying this state, making it absolutely unaffordable to live here with all the high taxes we pay going to supporting illegals, homeless, DEI, and climate change while our infrastructure is collapsing, our children are poor performing with parents having no say in their education, and jobs becoming more scarce due to companies leaving the state from all the regulations. God help us if Harris becomes Governor–these things will just get worse, and I’ll finally be forced to leave this beautiful state I was born in.

Ha! Clearly you have not travelled much. We moved from CA, in fact the nirvana of CA, SLO, and have not looked back. Boy has my quality of life improved. Man has my bank account improved. Wow what a joy driving is (80 mph at rush hour). Holy moly are people friendly, generous and kind around here… and everything is so green and tidy and forested. I didn’t have time for one hobby in CA, now I enjoy fly fishing, golf and carpentry. People slow down and move over for me on my bike rides, but I rarely ride on roads since there is 30 miles of class 1 bike trails that run by lakes, forests and end up near the down town where I get my coffee. Yep. My quality of life is so much better. Oh, and the culture! music recitals, travelling Broadway, Jazz at the Lincoln Center and Big 10 sports. Hell no, I don’t think of CA except to pity those who think it’s the center of the world.

You’re spot on, Mr. Gurnee. Kamala continues to be the nothingburger we all know so well. All that really matters is a solid economy, a trusted currency, and a government free of corruption. Those basic ideals would never happen with a Kamala-led administration.

Agree. Kamala Harris would be a nightmare. Also, we are living a nightmare with the current administration MAGA clown show. We need to do better than the AOC / MTG extremes. Such weird times.

What due process. Anyone who entered the US illegally should be shown the way out using the same legal process they used to enter. Those who showed up without any legal ability to enter should not expect us citizens to spend time and money to give them a trial. If you entered illegally, you have no right to anything but a polite escort to the border.

Well stated opinion, and clearly un-American. Any person subject to the authority of our government is entitled to due process. Arguing otherwise does not make you a patriot.

It would be great if all those erroneously detained fell into the convenient silo that you place them in, but alas all are not. It is easy to be cruel and uncaring with this worldview. It is easier on one’s brain too to have a non-complex world with little nuance or ambiguity.


But there are already dozens of reports of brown citizens being detained for days at a time. And that Americans have erroneously been sent to El Salvador and denied due process because they were assumed to be illegal.


You can continue to ignore the truth, that American citizens, are caught up in this. Understand YOU have no freedom unless you have Due Process.

You are very confused. We don’t owe due process to every person regardless of what country they live in. Folk who don’t live here legally are entitled to nothing. Just send them back to where they came from.

Not confused at all about the applicable law. You are so incorrect it is not worth going back and forth over except to stay one of us holds a position that upholds democracy, the other believes that Executive Branch is the law and that is fascistic.

The only due process applicable for illegal entry into the U.S. is deportation, the 14th amendment is clear, entrants are not subject to the jurisdiction of United States or the States in wherein they reside, therefore they are not citizens and have no standing in the courts.

Regardless of what she, or you, or anyone else says, the fact is that the new selfish, irresponsible, arrogant and childish Republican Party and see-nothing, hear-nothing and do-nothing Republican Congress, is now squarely anti-American, having become dreaded domestic terrorists. They do not represent in any way what our Great World War I and World War II warriors fought so courageously and selflessly for. For the most part, our federal government has become America’s Enemy # 1, no longer displaying any American values. All they want to do is tear down our wonderful country and disrespect ally countries, rather than work together with all Americans to improve our nation. Never in American history has the term Ugly American become so prevalent in our society, which has no concept of critical thinking. And mega American corporations are strong accomplices in this anti-American movement. Our children now face a very scary and deadly future, all because of a nation that is abandoning them. Absolutely deplorable and devastating. No wonder America’s wonderful women no longer wish to have children.

Our nation’s children now face a future with secure borders, a stronger mission focused military, a more efficient less oppressive government, a more diverse and accountable media, and greater personal freedom and opportunity. Unfortunately, this is less true for California’s children.

The REAL anti-American movement is the one that has given us 90 years of failed “progressive” policies and a century of devaluing our currency. Add to that, decades of overspending, leaving our children with almost 37 trillion dollars in national debt, and anyone can see why we are teetering on the brink of collapse. At least the current administration is trying to cut spending and negotiate fair trade deals. No one else has done anything but give it lip service.
