California lawmakers seek mask ban for law enforcement

June 17, 2025

By KAREN VELIE

Amid anger over deportations in California, two California lawmakers announced plans to create a mask ban bill to prohibit law enforcement officers from wearing face coverings when interacting with the public.

State Sens. Scott Wiener and Jesse Arreguin, who represent San Francisco and Oakland, said their bill would also require officers to display identifying information on their uniforms. Officers would be permitted to wear medical mask during certain disasters such as wildfires.

“We do not need secret police in California,” Wiener said a news conference. He then accused law enforcement of “grabbing” people and “throwing them into vans and disappearing them.”

While the proposed bill appears to target federal law enforcement, it is questionable if state’s can regulate what federal agents wear when working.

If this lawmaker gets an ICE agent killed he should be arrested and sent to prison…

But didn’t they just demand that the public wear masks a few years ago….what kind of circus act are they trying to pull?

Totally the same thing as men with guns arresting people.

Public employees shouldn’t hide, that’s the publics right..

And people shouldn’t dox them, but they do don’t they.

I read this morning that Congress wants security for them and their family after the Minnesota killing of State Legislators. Now there is a move to prevent ICE agents from wearing face coverings to protect themselves and their families. This is ridiculous legislation. The California legislative should be disbanded – we would be better off without them.

At the very least, they should be reduced to a part-time legislature.

YES, please!

Local police are going to love breathing in all that tear gas they deploy during “protests”.

How Ironic is this coming from Democrats, over masks? The cops have an absolute right to protect themselves! They are Protecting our Laws! How can these idiots want them compromised?

That is PRECISELY the intent of the proposed legislation – the Democrats WANT them compromised! This is just another way to achieve the goals of the Defund the Police movement.

California politicians double down on stupid

It is obvious. You do NotSee well.

Small government does not consist of a masked, unaccountable, police state.

Why is it stupid?

Can’t fix stupid!

How about a mask ban for rioters?

To make it “equitable” and fair, a mask ban would apply not just to rioters but to any and all protestors.

The anger isn’t necessarily deporting people. Its the fact they are masked, no identification, no due process and being basically kidnapped. Thats the issue. Hate to break it to all the trump supporters, Obama departed far more than trump has or ever will. But keep believing the BS that trump wants you to believe.

When were the ginned up riots for Obama and Clinton deportations? Ohhh, so when you agree with the president, it doesn’t matter who is affected, right?

Remember dear little Elian Gonzalez, being ripped from the arms of his Uncle, at gunpoint, by Clinton’s Border Patrol goons after they bashed in the door and raided the house where he lived? Recall Clinton ignored every effort by everyone on the right side of politics, to keep the tiny little innocent boy in America? Now, sweet little Elian is basking in the cesspool of Cuban Marxism, where he was forcibly transported.

Do you remember? Because we didn’t hear a peep from these so-called activists. No riots. No looting. No calling out the Army and Marines. Just plain old socialism at it’s finest.

Conflating an international custody dispute and what is happening is a ridiculous premise. Nice try though. Oh, and its been reported Elian graduated college and is now in politics. He is fine.

Just looked at the picture of the agent with his gun on his uncle. Guess what. No mask…
