Charlie Kirk changed my life, inspired me

OPINION by ROMAN MEDEIROS

There is no one greater than Jesus Christ—no one more worthy of my praise, my devotion, and my life. He is my lord, my savior, and the foundation upon which I stand. But if there is one person who has most inspired me here on earth, second only to Christ, it is Charlie Kirk.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been passionate about politics. I followed the news, watched debates, studied history, and quietly held to conservative values and biblical truth. But I never spoke up. I believed it all deeply, but I didn’t have the courage, confidence, clarity, or strength to say it out loud. I didn’t know how—and I was afraid to try.

That changed when Charlie Kirk came into my life.

Through my screen—his podcast, his shows, his speeches—Charlie spoke truth. He didn’t just inform me. He stirred me. He challenged me to be bold. He showed me what it looked like to love God, love your country, and speak out unapologetically. I studied his arguments, listened intently, took notes, and felt God working on my heart through his words.

Dialogue is dying in this country—people are silenced for believing what’s right. But at just 18 years old, by the grace of God and through the influence of Charlie Kirk, everything changed for me.

Four months ago, I launched The Roman Medeiros Show.

And in that short time, God has moved more than I could have imagined. The show has reached nearly one million views, and I’ve interviewed congressional candidates, mayors, and local leaders across California. Sheriff Chad Bianco, now running for Governor of California, has become not just a guest, but a friend.

I’ve hosted Donald Wagner, former mayor of Irvine and now Orange County supervisor, who’s running for secretary of state. I’ve welcomed Stephen Davis, a Turning Point USA commentator and close friend of Charlie. Mark Kaye, podcaster and congressional candidate from Florida—another close friend of Charlie—joined me as well. And soon, Brandon Tatum, one of the most influential conservative voices in the country, will appear on my show.

I’ve even been featured on national television four times.

But the greatest honor of all? I was on The Charlie Kirk Show.

The man who inspired me—who gave me a voice when I was afraid to speak—interviewed me on his show. I met Charlie. I had a conversation with the man who forever changed my life. And all I could think was: God is good.

Charlie Kirk is an American hero. A Christian martyr. Charlie was also a husband, a father, and a son. The only thing that gives me peace is knowing he has heard the words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

All glory to God. This is just the beginning. And I won’t be silent. God is good. God is alive. My prayer is simple: “God, use me for Your will.”

Thank you, Charlie. Now go and rest. We’ve got it from here.

Roman Medeiros graduated from Mission High School in San Luis Obispo. He is the host of the The Roman Medeiros Show and the president of Turning Point USA at Norco College.

I respect your faith and the grief you feel—but let’s not rewrite history. Charlie Kirk was not a martyr, nor was he an “American hero.” He was a political commentator who made a career out of stoking division, spreading misinformation, and targeting marginalized communities. He wrapped himself in faith and patriotism while pushing policies that stripped freedom from others. That isn’t integrity, that’s hypocrisy.

Charlie preached “truth,” yet twisted it to demonize immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, and anyone who didn’t fit his narrow worldview. He spoke of “loving your country,” yet pushed rhetoric that fueled fear and hatred among Americans. He claimed to defend “freedom of speech,” while cheering on censorship and suppression of voices he disagreed with.

I understand people draw inspiration from strong personalities, but inspiration doesn’t erase reality. A man who built his platform on division, dishonesty, and disrespect for entire groups of people cannot be held up as a model of Christian love or American justice.

Mourning someone’s death doesn’t mean canonizing their life. We can honor the grief of his family without pretending Charlie Kirk embodied values he actively betrayed. Truth matters. Equality matters. And no amount of rhetoric changes the fact that his legacy is one of exclusion, not love.

So you never heard him speak, got it

Thank you for so eloquently and kindly articulating exactly how I feel about this subject. Extremely well stated!

Some times the truth hurts when you have been taught propaganda.

He ABSOLUTELY was a martyr and an American hero!!!!!

A great man that created a GREAT movement that will NOT be silenced by the radical left.

His legacy will never be silenced by your negativity. The radical left just turned the red wave of 2024 into the RED TSUNAMI OF THE FUTURE. Your violence, hatred, and rhetoric is not getting you voters to become dems, but keep it up….your doing great. See ya in November 2026

Sad, how these days, you’re not allowed to speak truth, and are murdered for doing so. But, God knew what humans would do if they did not believe Him, even after His Son was nailed to a cross, for them! Thank God, Charlie is with Him. Prayers for his wife and children. Romans1:18-32

Roman, I introduced myself to you today at the Charlie Kirk Memorial.

Remem

Remember that the Republican Party of San Luis Obispo County is here to help you grow your vision.

Your generation is needed to end the evil of the DemoNcrat party.

Onward and upwards young man.

Evil? DemoNcrat? Nice job toning it down. Just because I differ from you on how we think the government should work does not make me, or Democrats in general, evil.

Constant use of these terms on both sides has an effect on those in the fringe.

I differ from you on policy; women’s health, immigration, foreign affairs, gays rights, the economy, and so much more. Yet, I coached your kids, volunteered on boards and committees, barbecued at community fundraisers, and pull over to help you if you are stranded. Just like you expect from any neighbor. Does that occur to you?

You believing that I am evil because we have political differences is the problem. Can you be part of the solution and resist calling me evil? We may find more agreement than less, if we simply try.

Evil? DemoN? Wow.

I agree with you on no name calling, but if you condemn A-Town Rebel for this how do you feel about all the leaders in the Democrat party calling President Trump “Hitler”? Or “Nazi”? How about the phrase “They’re going to end Democracy!” Don’t you think that might get the softer minded Liberals to do something rash?

I didn’t condemn A-Town, I encouraged him to do better. Your response? Not until they change first. Our President can do better as well.

BTW.. In fact, Trump has spent years labeling his political opponents fascists, both before and after his two assassination attempts.

And to the extent Nazi comparisons are beyond the pale, that’s also a standard Trump hasn’t abided. In 2017, he compared the US intelligence community’s actions to “Nazi Germany.” In May 2024, he said the Democrats were running a “Gestapo administration” – a reference to the Nazi secret police.

The larger point, though, is that Trump’s own rhetoric has been remarkably violent. He and his MAGA allies have often been rather callous and cavalier about political violence when it wasn’t their side targeted.

Democrats sought an impeachment, and removal from office, on a fairy tale of made up lies about Russia.

So, yeah. Gestapo.

Remember Hunter’s laptop? “That’s not his! Well, it is his, but there is nothing incriminating on it. Well, yeah all that is incriminating, but he never said or did any of that. Well, yeah, he did say and do that, but you just heard it all wrong and we’re right!”

So, yeah. Gestapo.

God bless Charlie’s wife and his two babies… how we have come to this point is very disheartening…

I didn’t like Charlie Kirk. I wished him no harm. You sir, appear to be an opportunist leveraging this man death with hollow Christian platitudes and thinly disguised self promotion. In a nutshell, you epitomized all the ills that make people question the motivations of Christian’s. Christian’s who choose to wear their religion on their sleeve instead of holding it their heart.

I have no desire to tune in to your “show”. May God bless you.

Keep it up, Roman. Your courage and conviction are vital to saving this country from evil domination. You are an inspiration to many young people and this evil act against Charlie Kirk shouldn’t deter you or anyone else wanting to spread the Lord’s message of love and peace. Many blessings to you and to those who are following Mr. Kirk’s lead.

Kirk is no martyr. I had never heard of Kirk until he was killed. Looking at his past statements I find it difficult to understand why anybody would want to emulate him. The only thing missing from his shtick was live rattlesnakes and some sort of magic elixirs to sell.

The only thing I agreed with was that the Epstein files need to be released. When that happens the whole maga cult will collapse. And when that happens the world will be a better place. The fringe right will collapse as well as the fringe left will disappear. Hopefully leaving moderate Americans to getting back to business.

Being afflicted with a low-IQ is a bad life deal.

Sorry for your condition. Thoughts and prayers.

“The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.” – Ronald Reagan

Good for you! But let me get this straight, Kirk didn’t inspire you to go out and feed the poor or heal the sick, as Jesus preached, but to have your own “show.” I guess I must be old, but I really don’t understand why that’s so great.

I guess Roman didn’t have access to generational wealth like you. He’s making his own way.

Well, no, I guess not, he didn’t have a smart grandfather who came to California a long time ago with some different ideas about growing stuff. But, he also doesn’t look like he has spent any time in the fields actually working as I did for over 30 years. In his defense, however, it probably is a better way to make money these days by spreading your “opinions” on a “show” on some podcast or by challenging gullible college liberals to a debate than to put in an honest day’s labor.

Golly mister! You sure can tell a lot about a guy just by looking at an image of him.

This is not the place or time

He’s feeding the poorly informed, and healing the sickness that is progressiveness with honest information. That equates with making the blind see, and the lepers to lose their affliction.

That’s how God has always worked. That is how Charlie Kirk worked. That is how Roman is now working.

It’s always the non Christians using Jesus as a cudgel

Charlie Kirk was an abhorrent extremist and the last person one should model their life after or admire.

Extremist my ass. You ever read the defintion?

Anti women, anti minority, anti lgbtq, with a superiority complex going around to colleges debating kids and young adults as a career. Seems pretty extreme to me.

George Floyd, now that’s a hero.

be at peace, not the time

I would be willing to bet you never listened to him… you see that he is changing the views of young people and you hate him for it… The left has lost all control since 2016 and why so many people feel they have TDS… Liberals use to be kind caring and loving… those days are over…

I’ve heard enough of the vitrol he spewed to stear clear of him and everyone like him. Disgustingly hateful people that have no place in decent society imo. Judging others oh so sanctimoniously for no legitimate reason other than gross racism, sexism, and homophobia. Grow up!

Well, let’s see, what did he say:

“If I’m dealing with somebody in customer service who’s a moronic Black woman, I wonder is she there because of her excellence, or is she there because of affirmative action.”

“If we would have said that Joy Reid and Michelle Obama and Sheila Jackson Lee and Ketanji Brown Jackson were affirmative action picks, we would have been called racists. Now they’re coming out and they’re saying it for us … You do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously. You had to go steal a white person’s slot to go be taken somewhat seriously.”

“Reject feminism. Submit to your husband, Taylor. You’re not in charge.”

– Discussing news of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement.

“The answer is yes, the baby would be delivered.”

– Responding to a question about whether he would support his 10-year-old daughter aborting a pregnancy conceived because of rape.

“We need to have a Nuremberg-style trial for every gender-affirming clinic doctor.”

“I think it’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the second amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.”

“Blacks were far better off under the Jim Crow laws of the first half of the 20th century. The civil rights act was one of the worst laws ever passed.”

Wanna know the thought process of why Charlie was shot?

This.

Okay Army… ridiculous and insulting suggestion than I sincerely resent your putting forward. His killer was even further right politically than he was fyi! He didn’t think Charlie was doing enough for white supremacy… I despise any form of surmised supremacy! Kirk did not deserve to die but he also was not a good person, and I refuse to pretend otherwise.

Another lie, and yes, it does seem like you are happy with his murder.

So he wrote on his unspent cartridges:

“Bella Ciao”- an Italian communist war cry

“Hey fascist, catch!”

Along with a reference to his trans partner’s furry fetish… Definitely sounds like a white supremacist. Absolute soulless brain rot on display

It’s people like you that help the republican party thrive, thank you! The democrat party is done.
