If you don’t vote, we can’t win

OPINION by ANDY CALDWELL

One of my favorite movie lines, because it made me think, was in “Chariots of Fire.” Chariots of Fire is a true story, a 1981 film about two British track athletes, one a determined Jew, and the other a devout Christian, who compete in the 1924 Olympics.

The film was the winner of four Academy Awards including best picture. Harold Abrahams is afraid he can’t beat Eric Liddell. He tells his girlfriend, “If I can’t win, I won’t run!” She aptly observes, “If you don’t run, you can’t win.”

Too bad republicans (and a good number of independents) in California don’t have wise and discerning girlfriends! I have witnessed several elections over the years where the margin of victory by which the Democrat won was the exact number associated with conservatives who didn’t vote because they thought they could not win.

It is a very perverse and disastrous self-fulfilling prophecy to lose because you don’t think you can win, when the only thing you had to do to prove yourself wrong was to vote.

I am often asked, “What can I do to make a difference?” The simplest thing is to get involved and recruit other “unbelievers” to do the same. Today I will outline three things you can do.

The first is vote Proposition 50 is before voters, and it is as extremely important as it is devious. The fake excuse to redistrict California mid-census has to do with Texas doing the same.

But Texas redistricted because it was found to be in violation of the laws pertaining to how districts can be drawn in light of the Voting Rights Act. Regardless, Texas had a legitimate reason to redistrict, while Gavin Newsom’s Prop. 50 is nothing less than a raw power grab.

What is at stake? The elimination of all but three congressional seats held by republicans in California.

The goal? Shift the balance of power in the House back to Democrats to stonewall the Trump agenda.

What to do? Vote! And urge everyone you know to vote no on Prop. 50. The deadline to vote is this Tuesday.

Prop 50 suspends California’s Citizen’s Redistricting Commission for purely partisan purposes.

Don’t let Newsom get away with it.

Speaking of voting. One of the things the corrupt Democratic political machine relies upon to win in California is various types of election machinations ripe for fraud.

This would include so-called “ballot harvesting” which allows bundlers to drop off hundreds of ballots gathered under, at best, suspicious circumstances. The cure?

The requirement to vote in person and show an id to do so! The proposed ovter ID ballot measure, if approved by voters, would become a state constitutional amendment that requires citizenship verification for all voter registrations and government-issued ID for casting a ballot in an election.

But, before voters get a chance to approve this measure, we need your help to get it on the ballot! That means the organizers must get enough signatures to get the measure before voters.

Please visit the following website to download the petition and urge your family and friends throughout the state of California to do the same.

The third issue that needs your immediate attention is an effort by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer’s Association to shore up Prop. 13. The passage of Prop 13 was a seminal event in our tax and spend state back in the 1970’s.

Prop. 13 accomplished several things for taxpayers. First, it capped the rise of property tax from year to year. This was so essential to property owners who were losing their homes, that they owned outright, because the meteoric rise in property taxes was literally taxing them out of their homes.

The second provision of Prop 13 required a two-thirds vote to raise local taxes. Well, to make a long story short, both our politicians and our courts have been whittling away at these protections and the HJTA would like to shore up and bullet-proof Prop. 13.

This is another instance where we need your help qualify this measure for the ballot by downloading a petition, signing it, and mailing it right now, today!  You can find this petition here.

In conclusion, I recently spoke at a church about Charlie Kirk and what his life and death represented about America. In essence, Americans have two birthrights.  The first as believers in God, in general, the second as Americans whose founding DNA recognized that our divine rights come from God, not government.

The question before those who will not stand up for truth, justice, and the American way as Charlie Kirk did, is why have you sold or squandered your birthright? If you are interested in hearing more, go to time mark 39 minutes.

Prop 19 has already devastated Prop 13 and we can thank the State Board of Realtors for slipping that between the pages that nobody read. When you die your successors will sell your property, that simple. Sure, there will be exceptions for one child on one property or some legally drafted shenanigan that will come with a big cost and need the approval of the tax assessor to vet the legal BS as a contiguous generational ownership. Good luck, and example of the industry that supports Prop 50.

How can you post that? Trump ordered red states to redraw maps. California THEN responded. It was in direct response. So how you can frame it. Any other way is embarrassing to me. And adding Charlie Kirk’s name at the bottom? Just like Mayor Julie Annie mentioned 911 every time he spoke. Come on, really?

Charlie Kirk went around the nation to divide us. There was no reason to have someone that had memorized a script like he did and go talk to kids at colleges that were uninformed and incapable of a debate.

What on earth was he doing going around the nation having debates? It was to recruit people to the Republican side that did not know any better and he talked about “Women shouldn’t be working” THEN, His widow took over his organization! He talked about if he sees a black pilot, He gets worried and wonders if they’re qualified as if he flew commercial.

Please stop with the divisive posting.

Yes, people need to show up to vote. Posting all of that opinion when we know that there was no reason for Texas to redraw the map until it started to panic because it was starting to turn blue again.

MAGA has no shame, no sense of honor, and no issue with hypocrisy. It runs on hate, fear, and racism.

Last I heard, only those on the left have not only publicly called for the death of Trump, but have actually tried to kill him 3 times. No one on the right burned down cities to honor drug addicted felons. No one on the right pulled down any historic statues. No one on the right formed the KKK, established Jim Crow laws, or has been tried for the lynching of blacks.

Your rhetoric filled lies are tired, worn out, and no longer mean anything.

Texas democrats violated the state Constitution when they drew maps that favored democrats (by counting illegals as residents to bolster their constituency count). The law required all maps to rescind back to their previous position.

But, then, you wouldn’t have leftist talking points and lies to spew.

Bullshit. Plain vs in as that. Here is fox news explaining how and why it went down. Here is Fox News so you know it’s real.

And here Trump telling other states to gerrymander. Again, another Fox report to make sure maga thinks it https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trumps-redistricting-push-gains-steam-another-key-state-stand-with-president.amp

Winning!

The “legitimate” reason Texas tried to claim for redistricting had to be amended in a September court filing renouncing their previous claim.

“Constitutional concerns raised in July by the U.S. Department of Justice, which the state had cited as the reason for the re-draw, were in fact a “mistake,” the state now says in a new court filing Tuesday.

The filing also appears to acknowledge that Gov. Greg Abbott (R) knowingly misled the public when he pointed to those concerns, saying Abbott used DOJ as “political cover” to hide the partisan goal of the effort.”

I don’t know if right-wingers have processed that because their voting base is more rural and has a lower propensity to vote in mid-term/cycle elections; demanding in-person voting with ID will hurt their voters far more than the Democrats.

If the only thing that matters is political power then yeah, we should have in person voting with the only county polling location being downtown SLO and require a passport to prove ID. That’d be secure!

But I believe in pluralism, democracy, the constitution, and republicanism, the best method is clearly universal mail-in ballots with good signature matching/DL ID check and a probably tighter deadline than CA allows currently. That’s perfectly reasonable and fair for everyone, not just educated city-dwellers.

I voted ;-)

“But Texas redistricted because it was found to be in violation of the laws pertaining to how districts can be drawn in light of the Voting Rights Act. Regardless, Texas had a legitimate reason to redistrict. . . ” And what was their legitimate reason? They broke they law and were forced to. It wasn’t a “reason” for Texas to redraw the map, it was a court order demanding it. And what did they do, violate the law again and then rely on a favorable court to bless it. TEXAS MADE THE POWER GRAB. California is trying to respond. But nice try, you absolute partisan hack. How do you even look at yourself in the mirror?

Easy when there is no reflection looking back!

“Partisan hack?” So anyone who doesn’t agree with your point of view is a “partisan hack?” Sounds like you need to look in the mirror.

He’s a partisan hack because he ignores the facts right in front of his face so he can twist anything to fit the narrative of his orange creamsicle demagogue. What he has said is an absolute lie about what really happened, and he does it regularly. So, yes, he’s a partisan hack.

Vote in person and demand a generic ballot.

Yeah, all the elderly and people with disabilities need to get off their lazy butts!!! …oh, wait; that’s a horrible and cruel thing to suggest. Maybe not everyone has the same capabilities as you “RealisticOne”. Try thinking outside your own viewpoint sometimes.

“How DARE you stick up for elderly and disabled people! We will downvote you for that!” This site is turning more and more into a MAGA cesspool of hate.

Why does it always come down to hate? When conservatives are moral and just, logical and practical, traditional and loyal, independent and responsible no hate just a different way of seeing and thinking.

As if to prove my point. MAGA is so predictable.

If only that were true; But the only folks I see spewing hate in this thread are you guys!. Lighten up; you lost the last election because your policies mostly suck. If you want to win elections, don’t embrace policies that suck, and don’t pretend problems your policies cause can’t be solved.

Don’t let foreigners vote in our elections, don’t subsidize illegal aliens, and require ID AND proof of citizenship at voting places – kinda like you have to do to open bank accounts, board planes, or do all kinda things much less impactful than voting.

Oh, and quit cheating on elections.

The low-info (IQ) from the Libocrats on this site knows no bounds.

Mail-in ballots are NOT Absentee ballots, mensas.

The former will be made ILLEGAL (again) and the latter is indeed ONLY for the handicapped, infirmed, deployed military and ex-pats. That is it.

THE REST OF US NEED TO GET BACK TO ONE DAY, IN PERSON PRECINCT VOTING WITH A REQUIRED VALID STATE ISSUED ID WHILE USING ONLY PAPER BALLOTS. Cured final results within 72 hours max, mandatory.

WE THE PEOPLE, demand that we MAKE ELECTIONS FAIR AGAIN.

Californians must VOTE NO ON PROP 50!

#NEVERVoteDemoNcratPartyAgain

I agree but unfortunately I believe 50 will pass by a landslide.

Yup. And republicans will continue to lose. People are tired of being lied to by Trump and his minions.
