Trump sends California National Guard to Portland, Newsom plans to sue

After a federal judge blocked President Donald Trump’s deployment of the Oregon National Guard, Trump sent 300 California National Guard troops to Portland. Governor Gavin Newsom then vowed to sue the Trump administration.

On Saturday, a federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s deployment of Oregon National Guard troops, saying the administration failed to prove that local law enforcement could not handle immigration-related protests in downtown Portland. Trump then sent troops from California to Portland.

On Sunday, Newsom announced plans to sue Trump over what he called a “breathtaking abuse of power.”

“The Trump Administration is unapologetically attacking the rule of law itself and putting into action their dangerous words — ignoring court orders and treating judges, even those appointed by the president himself, as political opponents,” Newsom said in a statement. “This isn’t about public safety, it’s about power. The commander-in-chief is using the U.S. military as a political weapon against American citizens.”

My son and I recently made a trip there for a delivery of furniture for a friend. The place or what we seen, made us both want to live at once. What a mess!

Mr Newsome should keep his pie hole shut on this one! Just my opinion!

Living in another part of Oregon, I hear this all the time from MAGA Trumpers. They drive up to Portland to do something like deliver furniture for a friend and somehow, magically, in one day or a couple hours, they get up close and personal with a 145-square mile city of 640,000 people. And they ALWAYS see the same thing – “a mess”, “Antifa everywhere”, “afraid to get out of the car”. Which tells me that probably what they saw of Portland is what Fox News Entertainment shows them regularly. I always have to laugh at the Antifa comment. Most of them are shocked to find out that Antifa isn’t even an organization – just a philosophy = anti + fascism. Portland is a beautiful, unique city with a thriving economy, infrastructure and arts scene. And yes, homeless people seem to prefer it over other cities – wouldn’t you? Oregon is a compassionate state.

What kind of judge would call this civil uprising “immigration-related protests” when it’s clearly violent civil disobedience in response to federal law enforcement. If you don’t like the law work to change it. I don’t know if Our Commander in Chief sending troops to quill a lawless uprising is the appropriate response but it’s better than standing around with your hands in your pockets.

Newsom is such a poser. He is posturing for his 2028 Presidential run. He, like others in 2026, will run on an anti-Trump strategy because he can’t brag about his rule over California. So many are leaving this once wonderful state because they can’t afford to live here anymore. Our net migration has been increasing over the past 5 years. It’s torture to watch all our tax dollars (highest taxed state in the US) going to Newsom and his gang in the legislature’s pet projects and lawsuits against Trump, while so many can’t afford a home, utilities, insurance, etc. There are so many needs in this state that this wasted money on lawsuits for his political benefit could be spent on.

I think there are a few better candidates on the Left than Gavin, though he’ll do. I love Jasmine too but I’d like seeing her as attorney general maybe. Right now it’s about making sure these fascists don’t deny us an actual election. It’s they’re only hope – they know they’ll get trounced. 60% of the nation is blaming the Right for the shutdown and who knows how low Trump’s favorability is right now.

I really cannot understand what you people might be listening to. Intelligence? That’s really what you hear when you listen to Donald Trump or Pete Hegseth or Pam Bondi? Really? If they are intelligent they are keeping it from us. Biden, Harris, Obama, Newsom, any of them, can express more in 2 or 3 sentences than a MAGA Trumpian can in 2 or 3 hours of emotional hate-speech. Come on, really? Every time I listen to Trump or one of his ilk, I feel like I come away a little stupider than I already was.

He is the Commander of all US forces, yes, including the Guard and Reserve. As such, he has the Constitutional authority to do so, under 10 U.S. Code § 12406 – National Guard in Federal service. To whit:


(1) the United States, or any of the Commonwealths or possessions, is invaded or is in danger of invasion by a foreign nation; (massive illegal immigration)

(2) there is a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States; (years of communist and anarchist lawlessness), or

(3) the President is unable with the regular forces to execute the laws of the United States; (Posse Comitatus)


And, before you say it…no, the governor does not have to approve. In fact, the governor is not the authority chain of command, Title 10 and the 1807 Insurrection Act is (Perpich v. Department of Defense).
