Immigration crackdown leads to multiple arrests in Santa Maria

Immigration enforcement agents arrested more than a dozen people in the Santa Maria area during the past four days, which includes an arrest outside a Goodwill store and a raid at a farm.

On Sunday morning, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were attempting to arrest a suspect when the undocumented immigrant’s vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by ICE agents in the Goodwill parking lot at 1505 South Broadway. Multiple protestors then arrived at the parking lot.

Many of the protestors learned of the enforcement action through 805 Immigrant and 805 UndocuFund.

“Our 805 Immigrant Rapid Response Network is already in contact with the impacted family and we will be supporting them with legal resources, accompaniment, and financial assistance through 805UndocuFund,” according to a post on Facebook. “We keep our community safe together.”

Shortly after 11 a.m., Santa Maria police officers responded to a report of a disturbance. Officers arrived to find ICE agents had arrested the suspect.

On Thursday morning, more than a dozen ICE agents conducted a raid at East Valley Farms in rural Santa Maria. Shortly after the raid began, approximately 50 protesters arrived and confronted Homeland Security officers and ICE agents, which led to flash bang deployment.

In the end, immigration enforcement agents arrested 15 to 20 people. CalCoastNews will provide additional information after it is available.

How do you know the farmers are dodging taxes? They hire labor contractors who are responsible for that and checking documents, almost always false because e-verify was never implemented because nobody in the business community Democrat or Republican, wanted it to be. BTW, if you hand out your SSN for others to use to gain employment you will get a nice surprise on your social security statement!

Prop 187 was approved by voters but was largely blocked in federal court as unconstitutional, as immigration is a federal rather than a state issue, and it was found to violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. The legal battle over Prop 187 ended in 1999, and the law never fully took effect. The controversial campaign surrounding it, including the famous “They keep coming” ad, is widely credited with galvanizing the Latino vote and changing California from a Republican stronghold to a solidly Democratic state.

Prop 187 actually proves the opposite of what you are arguing, not what you think it does.


Voters in a blue-trending state passed it by a huge margin, which tells you something very simple. Ordinary people, including a lot of legal immigrants, were deeply fed up with an uncontrolled system and a political class that refused to enforce its own laws. The courts did not strike it down because the concern was illegitimate. They struck it down on jurisdictional and equal-protection grounds. That is a technical question about who writes the rules, not whether the public is allowed to demand a secure border.


You also treat the later partisan shift in California as some kind of moral verdict on Prop 187. You could just as easily read it as a warning about importing a new electorate while ignoring the will of the old one. If anything, it shows how quickly a party will change the rules of the game when it cannot win the argument on enforcement.


The underlying issue has not gone away. Voters still want what every normal country has. Clear rules, a real border, and a government that does not punish people who follow the law while rewarding those who bypass it. Calling that desire “the wrong side of history” is just a way to avoid admitting that the public’s patience is not infinite.

The numbers of Illegal Aliens in the state of California is in the millions more than likely and births associated with that class are off the charts. On your first point, I agree that California has 3-5 more representatives in Congress because of legal and illegal immigration. That is the case because the approximately 3-4 (high end) million illegals are usually counted in the census. Bottom line is they are living here and they pay sales, state, federal and property taxes (as part of their rent) so they deserve representation. To get rid of all of them would cost approximately $30 billion and added billions in lost productivity in our economy. But you still haven’t shown any evidence of illegal voting. Finally, your last point is quite true and white nationalists have been panicking about it for years. Why else would they turn to a moronic conman who only wants the job for the grift and to stay out of jail.

I know many long term residents on the Central Coast as well as those in California

know illegal immigration has been going on for decades now. This Breaking of our immigration laws has totally disrupted our housing, jobs, dependency and Political picture in California! We are now addressing the issue in a real way. By enforcing immigration laws we are now finally beginning to bend the curve of decline in California. The people who are suffering the most are the ones who can afford it the least. The undermining of wages and the cost of housing has been crushing any possibility of upward mobility for our young people. Immigration into the United States has always been designed to strengthen our great Country and “NEVER” destabilize and weaken us. Unfortunately for us in California we have seen our decline and what we see happening by enforcing our immigration laws will hopefully start us back on the road to recovery. For those who might read this and think this is partisan remember this has been the fault of both Parties. One looking for cheap labor the other looking for cheap votes. No matter what political party you’re on this hurts us all! We need to bring balance back to California and thank God our greatest President gets it! Let’s stop the road to perdition that California has been on for far too long long and let’s begin to move toward a healthier and better California. It all Starts with enforcing our immigration laws and making sure everyone who immigrated here is vetted and can live here without fear. Let’s make California great and proud again!

Illegal immigrants can’t vote and there is virtually no evidence that they are. In statistics compiled by the very conservative Heritage Foundation there are records documenting only 68 cases of undocumented folks voting SINCE the 1980’s. In other words, cases of non-citizen voting are extremely rare. Furthermore, there is also virtually zero evidence of immigration causing a housing crunch. The problem there is we simply have not built enough housing for which I will gladly blame Democrats and a proliferation of regulations surrounding the process. Hopefully that can begin to change.
