Christopher Castro died Sunday morning when his fishing boat overturned south of the jetty in Morro Bay. A friend of Castro’s also fell in the water but escaped with minor injuries.
Because of dense fog and low visibility, the friends drifted too close to shore, and a wave capsized the boat. Neither of the boaters was wearing a life vest.
Two surfers spotted the capsized boat at 7:37 a.m. Sunday. Rescue crews arrived and began CPR at 7:55.
Emergency responders then transported Castro to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
