Gang member crashes into cop car in Santa Maria

A Northern California gang member crashed his car into a police cruiser in Santa Maria on Saturday, causing moderate damage to the vehicle. [KEYT]
Salinas resident Marcello Alvarez, 35, reversed his car into the police vehicle after an officer pulled him over for a traffic stop. Alvarez then led officers on a chase, in which he crashed into another parked car.
Alvarez fled by foot, but officers tracked him down and arrested him. They found a loaded rifle, ammunition and methamphetamine in his car.
Police booked Alvarez in the Santa Barbara County Jail on a more than $1 million bail.
