Car crashes, catches fire, kills Santa Maria woman

A woman died in a crash in Santa Maria Sunday evening after the car she was traveling in combusted.
The vehicle was heading southbound on Highway 101 near Donovan Road when it hit a guard rail, left the highway, crashed into trees and burst into flames. The crash trapped three people inside the vehicle, killing the 26-year-old Santa Maria woman.
Emergency responders managed to help the two other individuals escape the burning car. Responders transported both of them to a local hospital, where they received treatment for their injuries.
California Highway Patrol officials identified the injured pair as Santa Maria residents Travis Dashek and Kurt Hixenbaugh. Dashek was the driver, according to the CHP.
Officials have not yet identified the woman who died in the crash. She suffered fatal head injuries and burns.
The crash remains under investigation.
