Controversial Morro Bay parks commissioner resigns

Following an organized push to oust a member of the Morro Bay parks commission because of his aggressive online antics, Aaron Ochs resigned.

A group of people demeaned by Ochs on social media for issues such as having a dirty shirt or speaking their views at public comment, planned to voice their concerns to the Morro Bay City Council on Tuesday evening. Ben DiFatta, an 81-year-old man Ochs claimed was running a criminal enterprise before Ochs taunted him for having food on his shirt, was unable to attend the meeting and instead sent a letter to the city council.

“I am Ben DiFatta from Los Osos, I am one of the people that Aaron Ochs doesn’t like what I wear to the SLO Board of Supervisor meetings and other accusations that probably may affect my reputation and my business with his accusations as reported on Facebook,” DiFatta wrote. “What he said about me and others is over the top of common sense and malice towards citizen’s of this community. I don’t want to say much more for fear that his demeanor may worsen.”

Mayor Jamie Irons said he appreciated DiFatta’s comments, but Ochs had resigned.

“I believe council was aware of his personal opinions and some public push back on his position as a Rec and Park commissioner,” Irons wrote. “Recognizing this Aaron did the honorable thing by resigning from that commission so as to remove any negative comments toward the city (implied or not) and to hold true to his beliefs and positions.”

Ochs, through Facebook and several websites, has made numerous false claims alleging specific people are felons, or diagnosed mentally ill. He has impersonated reporters. He also has frequently manipulated photos of journalists and activists on his website in order to demean them.

Ochs’ online habits led to the organized push to remove him from the city parks commission and from his seat as President of the Morro Bay Eco-Rotary.

Unfortunately, this looney toon enjoys all the publicity despite it negative content. It shows us just how desperate this fool is for attention. He’s the poster child for everything that is wrong with humanity.

There has been much speculation as to who is backing Aaron Ochs and I believe the ‘smoking gun’ was inadvertently revealed in a recent late night post by Dee Torres with respect to CCN’s article Feb.23 “Is Morro Bay’s Park Official A Government Troll”

Where would they go? They all have houses and families in Morro Bay. Morro Bay is a coastal community, so there are only three directions in which to go: north, south, or east. It leaves out west.

Interesting- so the council boots Eckles off the Harbor Advisory Board but puts someone like Ochs on the Parks Commission. Looks like same old ugly politics in Morro Bay.

I believe I read that Eckles had to go because he was applying for a seat on the Board that is reserved for people who own businesses located on the Harbor, and he had sold his business. I believe that all the seats on the Rec and Parks Board are open to all applicants, and that there are no special qualifications for them other than an interest in serving the community..

Here is a quote from the City Council minutes of the meeting where applicants for the Harbor Advisory Board were interviewed.


“The City Council interviewed the following applicants for (2) two vacant seats on the Harbor Advisory Board, one representing Waterfront Leaseholders and one representing Recreational Boaters: Rich Buquet, Jeff Eckles, Michael Fiamingo, Neal Maloney, Dana McClish and James Zuur.


Council asked for clarification on which applicants were being considered for the Waterfront Leaseholder position. Mr. Maloney confirmed he is a current Waterfront Leaseholder; Mr. Eckles recently moved his business and is no longer a Waterfront Leaseholder”


Please note that Mr. Eckles had applied for the vacant seat for a waterfront leaseholder, but he no longer met the qualifications because he held no waterfront lease.

On March 6 Aaron Ochs committed one his most egregious above and beyond his normal typical paid lackey hypocritical venomous diatribe.


His words on his Facebook page pushing back from automated calls to Morro Bay residents critical of his demeanor and expressing concern that he was a Commissioner on the MB Parks and Rec. Verbatim….


“The Morro Bay Police Department is URGING anyone who received or continues to receive an automated call about Aaron Ochs to report it. Call the MBPD at (805)-772-6225 and report the call for criminal harassment. Thank you!”


This fascist move by Aaron Ochs translates to…

If you criticize a public official (appointed or elected) then they will get the police to arrest you for criminal harassment!


If this doesn’t scare the crap out of anyone who cherishes their freedom and violates the basic trusts of our great country that so many have died for then there is no hope.


I called the MBPD to verify that the department was URGING people to report criminal harassment against Aaron Ochs.


Not only did the MBPD NOT issue a statement of any kind to that effect, they were desperately trying to contact Ochs to take down his comment as they were in no way connected to the ‘URGING’.


IN OTHER WORDS,

OCHS LIED. BALD FACE LIED. TRIED TO USE THE MBPD AS HIS PERSONAL GOON SQUAD TO SQUELCH HONEST AND LEGAL DISCOURSE OF A PUBLIC OFFICIAL!


And he eventually took the ‘URGING’ statement down and posted a complete opposite retraction.


But just because you rob a bank and decide later to give back the money does NOT make you any less GUILTY!

Over time many have asked themselves the same question, “How can a fool like this get on a commission of any type”, or get elected (again and again)), any we never have a good answer, but like Ferrara and Adams in A.G., what we can finally say is gladly they are at least out of office and slowly we are ridding our town/area of them and their cohorts.

Yes, he did the honorable thing and resigned from the Parks Commission. He did this to not remain a distraction to the city, nor a target for those who defame him in deed, acts, and Robot-calls.


This should go a long way to those who so freely exercises their vitriol against him in CCN posts.


Especially galling is the existence of an ANONYMOUS Robot-calls campaign, made to Morro Bay residents for weeks on end. In it, the voice imbues his character, disparages his character. This is far worse a method than what he is accused of using.


Frankly, it makes him the underdog as people who hide behind this “whisper” campaign resort to chicken-s**t means to hurt and malign him. Makes those behind the Robot-calls look far worse…!


Shine the light of day on the accused, and the accusers, have open discourse and discussion, let the public decide who’s has the facts, conducts themselves above board. Obviously it takes two to roil the waters, what we get instead is the Kettle calling black on soot.


I read both, CCN and CalcoastFraud in order to get a fuller, rounded picture on issues of the day. Reading any one source only limits ones horizon, akin to people who echo-chamber FOX NEWS here.


Too often, this is what CCN sounds like in the comment section by the same posters of that affliction.


I congratulate CCN for breaking stories in our county pertaining to public figures in city, county, and government. CCN has scored noticeably well in the pursuit of business and public figures found embroiled in malfeasance, corruption, outright thefts or backdoor dealings.


CalcoastFraud calls out CCN for its style of collecting, reporting, and resorting to a particular style of investigative reporting that seems to skirt the bounds of responsible journalis


Aaron Ochs offers a contrasting view, and challenge in his comments; this seem to be the root cause of the blow-back. This rally to go after him has now achieved a partial victory by his voluntary removal from the board.


However, his distractors lost the war on credibility by resorting precisely to the methods, and worse anonymous Robot-calls. This mirrors less than proper or even legal means to get their story..!

Dave is right. In addition, Ochs photo shopped my email address on a post claiming I made it. He went as far to say that Redditt had provided him the proof that I made the post. It was not true and it became a crime in California to impersonate someone on the web in order to do them harm in 2011. Ochs then took it down, though I have a screen shot. He often removes posts after it is noted to be a complete fabrication.

Here’s part of the problem at least for me anyway. This “article” appears to be part of a personal squabble you have with this guy and you used Cal Coast News are your means going after him. Robocalls being sent to Morro Bay residents by an anonymous person/group would have generally caused CCN to investigate who was behind the calls but you didn’t seem to investigate that aspect at all. This “article” is tabloid in a lot of respects.

Actually Karen and CCN reported on the Morro Bay rob-calls last February as they started hitting town. What is she supposed to do beyond that? Such calls are impossible to trace. There is speculation as to the source, but that’s it. If you’ve got proof, send it to Karen.


Otherwise, I think it’s a legitimate news story when a member of a city commission is believed to be morally unfit for any public office. Had Mr. Ochs not stepped down, there were many people planning on showing up in public comment to discuss why he should be removed.
