Melody Logsdon, an elementary school teacher, drove her Subaru Impreza off the road and down a dirt and grass embankment shortly after 9 p.m. The side of the vehicle then hit a tree.
The lone passenger in the vehicle, 59-year-old Randall Logsdon, suffered moderate injuries. Both Logsdons were wearing seatbelts.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
A head-on collision occurred the following morning at the intersection of highways 41 and 46 east of Paso Robles. Two pickup trucks collided around 6:50 a.m., killing two people and injuring at least one other.
CHP investigators say the crash occurred when 47-year-old Paso Robles resident Charles Hutchinson turned left into oncoming traffic. Hutchinson suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Hutchinson was driving a Ford F-350. He hit a Chevrolet Silverado.
Medics pronounced the driver and the lone passenger of the Silverado dead at the scene. Both were 63-year-old men from Shafter.
The CHP has not yet released their names. It is also unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
