Panga delivers at least $18 million of pot to Big Sur

7.14.13 pangaA panga boat with approximately $18 million worth of marijuana popped up in Big Sur Friday, prompting Monterey County investigators to track down four suspects who were traveling in San Luis Obispo County. [Mercury News]

The Monterey County Sheriff’s narcotics team and gang task force responded to reports of a beached panga around 1:30 p.m. They found the boat sitting on the rocks a few feet from shoreline at the Mill Creek picnic area, which is located within the Los Padres National Forest.

Monterey sheriff’s personnel found more than 100 bales of marijuana inside the boat. They also found evidence that the smuggling suspects were still in the area.

Later, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies assisted by stopping a vehicle with four men inside that Monterey County investigators said were the suspects. All four of the men were arrested for possession of marijuana for sale.

Three of the suspects are residents of Yuma Arizona: They are Alejandro Acosta, 25; Jesus Garibay, 24; and Alexis Felix Garibay, 18. The fourth suspect, 27-year-old Gonzalo Ruiz Quezara, is a resident of Riverside.

Monterey County sheriff’s personnel seized the boat and marijuana. They booked the suspects in Monterey County Jail.

It is a complete line of bill$hit that $18 Million “worth” of marijuana got seized.

I say bull$hil because if and only if that seizure can be turned into cold hard cash can the government make claims like these.

Every time any drug bust is made, there is a claim usually in $Millions – Be it heroin, meth, Vicodin, steroids or marihuana.

This.is a fu¢king LIE. If anythingit COSTS our governments $Millions. WHY?

It justify all the support system in place (local police, sheriffs, DEA, FBI, border patrol, and the “Prison industrial Complex.” Not to mention therapist, counsellors, doctors and drug companies “Big Pharma.”

What a complete waste we all subject our lives with.

Regular weed smokers can get their 215 card for like $125 bucks in Santa Maria for their medical needs. They can grow up to 2 pounds or some other huge amount legally for their “personal use”. This has decreased the cost of mary jane, as the demand for “crappy mexican weed’ isn’t as high. Now, call your weed, tahitian fruit passion, stick it in a glass test tube with a label, and THEN you can command some big money for your “medicine”. Chasing panga boats is a huge waste of tax dollars, so they have to inflate their numbers to justify the “war on drugs”.

Why didn’t the Sheriffs catch them on their fancy new Sheriff panga boat catcher? Monterrey Sheriffs find the boat, then SLO Sheriffs “assist” in the arrest. Assist= please let us take some credit so we can justify our boat AND maybe Monterrey County can appeal to THEIR Board of Supervisors that they need a boat too. Gotta justify that money.

I serious have to question how a panga boat can haul 18 million worth of marijuana. This is nothing but a bunch of hype. I would be surprised if they even had a million worth.

Simple arithmetic! 18 million dollars divided by the going rate for weed per ounce (about $250)

Is only 72000 ounces of weed divided by 16 to turn that into pounds results in 4500 lbs of pot which means each bale would weigh about 450 lbs!


If you believe Noah could fit two of every animal in the ark then the same magical thinking can stuff 100 huge bales of pot into an open boat. See! the government wouldn’t lie, would they?

high quality retails for $250 per oz, low quality “mex” retails for $10 to $50 per oz. At least according to my brother who is a cop.

Maybe they were “bricks” and not “bales”. That would make more sense, if each brick weighed like a pound each. I watch a lot of CSI and law and order, so I think that kind of makes me an expert on the packaging of drugs. LOL. Oh come on, it’s funny.


Too bad that show “Fishmasters” isn’t on anymore. They could do a show about catching Pangaboat drug dealers since they never caught fish…..

4500 lbs divided by 100 bales equals 45lbs per bale not 450 lbs. You can only get to 450lbs if there were only 10 bales on the boat. And why would anyone make 450lb bales? They couldn’t be moved.


As for a panga boat holding 4500 lbs? Ya, I don’t think so either. Maybe 1,000 lbs.

I think you’re right. From what i’ve heard they found between 5000 and 5500 lbs of low quality cannabis that typically retails for $10 to $50 per oz. I could be wrong though. I think the math works out to be about $4.5 mil retail. Still an awful lot, but realistically it’s not “at least $15m.” Wholesale prices will obviously be a lot lower.
