Hundreds partake in SLO’s “March for Science”

April 24, 2017

Hundreds of science supporters marched the streets of San Luis Obispo on Saturday in a march to raise awareness of the importance of science in addressing society’s largest and complex issues.

At the rally that took place on Earth Day, numerous speakers addressed the large crowd at Emerson Park, including San Luis Obispo Mayor Heidi Harmon. More than 300 people attended.

Similar marches happened throughout the United States and the world. With hundreds of thousands of protesters, the largest march was in Washington, D.C. The day-long celebration of science was organized by the Earth Day Network.

The name of this march should have been the “Please Give Me More Grant Money March”.

Borderline

No one is stopping anyone from “doing” science. Doesn’t mean that everybody gets to put their hand in the taxpayers pocket whenever they feel like it.

DocT

March for politically correct ideas about science! Awesome!

There’s no real science today. Scientists are actually people who write research grants in order to get federal money….or they work for big pharma……or a government agency.

The only thing approaching “science” today is research on how to kill large numbers of people suddenly.

The rest is just politically correct tripe. When government pays for “scientific” research, they’re not going to pay for anything that might change their narrative.

San Louie

LOL!

These poor souls… “Science” (actually their interpretation of what “science” is) is their god(dess.) They seem to feel that they are somehow the keepers of the truth when they are not. They’re a flash in the pan.

I don’t think there are too many arguments being proffered out there against the value of hard science in “addressing society’s largest and complex issues.” I think they’re trying to manufacture a straw man argument. Sorry but no sale.

There are however plenty of legitimate and factual arguments made against some of the extremely soft or questionable “science” such limited people so fixate on.

There are also plenty of legitimate and factual arguments against these limited folks’ disdain for faith/religion, politics, social issues, etc., etc. that also have great value in “addressing society’s largest and complex issues” which they cannot seem to grasp.

Not only do these folks need to be more tolerant of other peoples’ views, they need to take their blinders off and learn how to think in a truly critical manner, unconstrained by their god(dess) they mistake for actual hard science.

They lack the gift of faith so they condemn

I wonder how much further along the path of science we would be today if there were marches for science when Obama shut down NASA’s shuttle program.

L.A.RamsFan

Nope, that’s wrong!!! The neo-con Bush Jr. did so!

“The Shuttle’s chief purpose over the next several years will be to help finish assembly of the International Space Station. In 2010, the Space Shuttle — after nearly 30 years of duty — will be retired from service.”

Science, the new state sponsored religion.

No, you would not be here without Science.

Go ahead and pray to the Unicorns, then pray to the Jebus of your choice.

See, no change, no effect, yet the sun shines and an apple still falls to the ground.

It’s Science, not a fable or fairy tale.

azuresees

Yes. We must all think alike. Once you have chosen to think like us, you will be allowed on our campuses…

kettle

Empty slogan, only fellow flat earthers will think it’s funny. This is really about the effect of decades of education cuts.

SLOBIRD

No offense, but that does not look like hundreds of people on the March. But, thank you for reporting!

Yet they Can’t accept the Scientific Truth that XX is a Woman and XY is a Man.

Why are these SLO Scientists Science Deniers?
