Police searching for armed suspect in Atascadero

Atascadero police are searching for a man who allegedly ran into a Motel 6 with an AR-15 rifle and then escaped on Sunday night.

Shortly after 11 p.m., with an Atascadero officer in pursuit of his vehicle, the suspect crashed at the intersection of El Camino Real and Santa Rosa Road. The man fled the scene holding an AR-15.

The suspect then ran to the nearby Motel 6, where a witness spotted him on the second floor, police said.

Officers closed Highway 101 on-ramps and off-ramps at Santa Rosa Road as they searched for the suspect. A helicopter was also dispatched to provide aerial assistance to police.

It is unclear where the suspect may have fled after being spotted at Motel 6.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic man in his 20s who was wearing a gray shirt, blue jeans and red shoes.

They got him, didn’t find the gun though:(

Surprisingly was in the Tribune this morning, they’re usually a day late and a dollar short!!!

I was listening to scanner last night during this Paso PD was involved with APD at the beginning 2 females and 1 male were apprehended at accident location one male ran off belived to be a juvenile Hispanic with AR-15 .LE pinged his phone showed he was at motel 6 so possibly he left it In another part of motel and hid in a room .But then ( believed to be ) his sunglasses were found by fence at northbound on-ramp K9 tracked scent to Curbaril exit .Search was called off no room to room search was done .His name has to be known to LE either from his accomplices or his phone records

The police must know his name , 2 females and a male was apprehended at the scene .The police shut down the search without doing a room to room search good possibility he was hiding in a room or he got a ride .

So that’s what all of the sirens were about early this morning.


YIKES! Hope they get this person and soon.
